My dear Arif,
Thanks a lot for your sweet letter. I am well. Hope you are keeping well . I am very happy that you are very much interested to know the foods and the eating habits of the people of my native land. Now I am giving you a short account of it. The food habit differs from person to person, society to society and country to country. The food habits of the Bangladesh are very rich in the world. We eat three meals everyday, We use fingers while taking food. We are fond of rice and fish. "Hilsha' fish is the most favourite to all. Different kinds of cakes are prepared when the new paddy is harvested . Khichuri is very common to all, high and low because it contains all kinds of the essential elements of food. Vegetables
are liked by all too. Bangladeshi foods are very nutritious delicious, tasty and alluring to all. It can be clearly said that our food habit is better than any other countries of the world. But it is alarming news that it is greatly hampered owing to western food habit but we are not careful of it. No more today. Please you also write to me about your native foods and the eating habits.

My dear Habib,
It is a long time since I heard from you. Your silence pains me much. It will be a pleasure for me if you write to me from time to time.
A few days ago I came to know that you are careless about your food habit and health. This is really shocking. I think you should have better idea of different kinds of food and their food value. Our body is the construction of food we eat. We all want to live a healthy and happy life. For the formation of our body, we need to eat a balance diet. A balanced diet is one in which the ratio of the elements of food is balanced. It ensures that there are carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, mineral salts and water in proportion to the requirement of our body. Carbohydrate gives us heat and energy. By eating rice, bread, potato, sugar, etc we get carbohydrate. Protein food like fish, meat, egg, dal, peas, bean and milk build our body. Fat gives us heat and energy and prevents decay of the body. We get fat by eating oil, butter and ‘ghee’. By eating leafy and green vegetables, fruit, egg, fish, meat and liver and by drinking milk we get vitamins and also mineral salts. Vitamins and mineral salts keep our body fit for work and keep away diseases. Water, one of the most important elements of a balanced diet, helps us digest food. The kidneys of the body, which can play the role of body’s filters, can’t work efficiently without water. It also controls the heat of the body and keeps our blood healthy. I hope this will show you the benefits of good food and from now on you will follow the proper way of maintaining health.
This is all for today.
With love and best wishes.
Yours ever,
Mohan

My dear ‘Siam,
I am very glad to receive your letter. You have wanted to know about the food habit of Bangladeshi people. Our food habit is a lot different than yours. People in Bangladesh generally take the same food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The villagers usually eat rice three times a day. They also take dal, meat and vegetables. The urban people usually take egg, bread made of wheat or flour along with fried vegetables or sweets and a cup of tea a breakfast. In lunch, they eat rice with curry of fish or meat and dal. They take rice, vegetables, curry, dal, etc. for dinner .Now-a-day some people in the rural areas eat bread to control their health. Some foods such as fast food like singara, samocha etc. Cold drinks , chips, burger, sand witches, chops, pizza, hamburger etc. are becoming popular day by day in our country. The modes of eating are also different between the rural and urban people. The urban people have started eating some western items of food but the rural people are not familiar with them. In fact, people in our country, especially the young people are changing their attitude towards western items.
No more today .I am eagerly waiting for your next letter.
Sincerely yours.
Akash

Dear Jason,
I received your lovely letter the day before yesterday. You mentioned that you are very curious to know about the foods and food habits in Bangladesh. I am writing to give you a clear picture of what we love to eat.
The food habit of the people in my country is very rich and quite different from Western countries. We usually take three main meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Rice is our absolute staple food. We traditionally eat a lot of fish, and the 'Hilsa' fish is the most favorite of all. Because of this, we are often called 'the nation of fish and rice'.
For a regular lunch or dinner, people commonly eat a large plate of plain rice with different types of mashed vegetables (bhorta), lentil soup (dal), and a rich curry of fish, chicken, beef, or mutton. On special occasions or festivals, we prepare rich and spicy dishes like biryani, polao, roast, and khichuri.
We are also very fond of sweets and desserts. During the winter season, families make various kinds of traditional rice cakes called "pithas" and sweet rice puddings called "payesh". Some of the most popular pithas are 'bhapa', 'patisapta', and 'chitoi'. In the summer, we enjoy eating fresh seasonal fruits like mangoes, jackfruits, and litchis.
Our food is mostly spicy, flavorful, and served with a lot of love. I really hope you can visit Bangladesh someday and taste these amazing dishes yourself. Please write to me about the popular foods in your country.
Lovingly yours, Isam

Dear David,
Take my cordial love. I hope you are doing well in your country. I received your letter last week. In your letter, you expressed a keen interest in learning about the traditional foods and food habits of the people of Bangladesh. Today, I am happy to give you a vivid picture of our culinary culture.
Bangladesh is a land of rich traditions, and our food habits reflect our warm hospitality and agrarian lifestyle. Our staple food is rice, which is served alongside a wide variety of curries. There is a very famous traditional proverb here: "Maachhe-Bhaate Bangali", which translates to "Fish and rice make a Bengali." Because our country is blessed with hundreds of rivers, fish is an indispensable part of our daily diet. Our national fish, the Hilsa (Ilish), is a true delicacy prized for its unique flavor and aroma.
A typical Bangladeshi day starts with a hearty breakfast. In urban areas, people usually have roti or paratha (flatbreads) with fried eggs, mixed vegetables, or lentils. In rural areas, many farmers prefer Panta Bhaat (fermented leftover rice soaked in water) with green chilies and onions to sustain them through hard physical labor.
For lunch and dinner, we eat steamed rice with a succession of dishes: starting with Bhorta (intensively mashed vegetables or dried fish with mustard oil), followed by thick gravies of fish, chicken, or beef, and ending with Dal (lentil soup). Bangladeshi food is world-famous for being richly spiced. We use a unique blend of aromatic spices like turmeric, chili powder, cumin, ginger, garlic, and cardamom, which gives our curries a deep flavor and vibrant color.
Apart from our daily meals, Bangladeshis have a legendary sweet tooth. We are famous for milk-based desserts like Roshogolla, Sandesh, and Mishti Doi (sweet yogurt). During the winter season, rural families celebrate the harvest with Pitha—traditional homemade rice cakes prepared with date juice and coconut. On special festivals like weddings or Eid, we celebrate with rich, celebratory rice dishes like Biryani and Tehari.
Our food habits are a big part of our identity, and we love feeding our guests until they are entirely full. If you ever visit Bangladesh, I promise to treat you to all of these wonderful dishes.
No more today. Write to me soon about your country's local cuisine. Convey my best regards to your parents.
Yours ever,
Rahim
