Dear Fatin,

I'm thrilled to share with you a recent discovery that has left me deeply moved: the significance of May Day. It dawned on me that you might not be acquainted with this pivotal day, so I felt compelled to enlighten you about its profound importance.

May 1st marks International Workers Day, a globally recognized occasion commemorating the relentless struggle of laborers across the world. This day serves as a testament to the hard-fought battles waged by workers throughout history. It stands as a beacon of unity and solidarity among the labor force, celebrated in numerous countries worldwide.

The privileges and protections that modern-day workers enjoy, from minimum wage standards to safety regulations and the establishment of the eight-hour workday, are all fruits of the sacrifices made by their predecessors in the tumultuous year of 1886. The onset of the Industrial Revolution had subjected laborers to grueling work shifts, often extending to fourteen hours or more each day. However, amidst these harsh conditions, a fervent movement advocating for an eight-hour workday emerged, igniting the spirits of both organized labor unions and unorganized workers alike.

Tragically, the events of May 3, 1886, at the McCormick Harvest Machine Company in Chicago serve as a stark reminder of the perils faced by workers in their quest for better rights and conditions. Police brutality against striking workers resulted in the loss of life, leaving one striker dead and several others gravely injured. Yet, amidst this turmoil, the resolve of the labor movement remained unyielding, echoing the sentiment that progress is often forged through adversity.

The long-cherished dream of workers worldwide gradually came to fruition through unwavering determination and collective action. It's a narrative that undoubtedly piques curiosity and invites deeper exploration into the rich history of labor rights struggles.

As I reflect on these profound revelations, I'm compelled to share them with you, dear friend, in the hopes of igniting a spark of curiosity within you. The ongoing struggle for workers' rights and privileges is a narrative worth delving into, for it speaks to the resilience and fortitude of the human spirit.

With warm regards and affection,

Tahseen
