My dear Rifat,

Your sweet note has just anchored my heart. Going through the letter I came to know that your school is going to start computer classes very soon. As you are very interested in learning more about computers, I am going to tell you about some basic things regarding a computer.

Computer is an ultra modern electronic device for storing and analysing information fed into it. A computer consists of five major components  the input unit, the output unit, the memory

unit, the control unit and the arithmetic unit. The input unit and the output unit consist of devices that permit a computer to receive or exhibit information. The memory unit, the control unit and the arithmetic unit make up the central processing unit (CPU). This CPU looks like a box. It has a motherboard, the chip, the cards and the RAMs in it. Monitor is another main part of the computer. It works like a TV screen. It shows whatever it is asked to do. Another main part is the keyboard which is just like a typewriter. There is a mouse in the computer. This mouse is a trigonometrical shaped thing that sits by the keyboard. Actually it is called the mouse because of its shape. You can do different things by clicking on the icons with the mouse.

However, every computer has its own machine language. Instruction to the computer must be given in this language since this is the only language that a computer actually understands.

This is all for today. You will know more about it when you begin to use it.

Dear Arif,

I hope you are fine by the grace of the Almighty. Mother told me over the phone that father recently bought a new desktop computer for the house, but you are feeling very scared to use it because you do not know how to run it. I am writing to tell you that there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of!

A computer is just a helpful machine, and learning to use it is very easy. Start by getting to know the basic parts: the monitor, the keyboard, the mouse, and the CPU. First, press the power button to turn it on. Once the screen lights up, practice holding the mouse and moving the small arrow on the screen. Try clicking on different icons just to see what happens. You cannot break the computer by just clicking around, so don't be nervous.

If you want to learn faster, open the internet browser and search for basic computer tutorials on YouTube. There are thousands of simple, step-by-step videos for beginners that will teach you how to type, create folders, and use basic software.

If you ever get stuck, do not hesitate to ask father or call me for help. Just practice a little bit every day, and soon you will become an expert.

Take my cordial love and affection. I hope you are doing well by the grace of the Almighty. I received your letter yesterday and was thrilled to know that father has finally bought a new desktop computer for you. You have asked for my advice on how to learn and operate it properly. I am writing to share a few important suggestions with you.

As you know, we are living in an era of information technology, and computer literacy is no longer a luxury but a necessity. To begin your learning process, I suggest you start by mastering the keyboard and improving your typing speed. You do not necessarily need a physical instructor; there are hundreds of excellent, free beginner tutorials on YouTube that can teach you step-by-step. Focus initially on basic operating skills and essential software like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These will be incredibly helpful for your school assignments and your future career.

Regarding running and maintaining the computer, you must be quite careful. Always make sure you have a reliable antivirus program installed and updated to protect the system from malware. Never plug in unknown pendrives without scanning them first, and avoid visiting untrusted websites. Most importantly, while the computer and the internet are vast oceans of knowledge, they can also be great distractions. Use this device primarily for your studies and gathering useful information. Please do not ruin your eyesight or waste your precious time playing excessive video games or scrolling meaninglessly on social media.

I firmly believe that if you follow these suggestions, this computer will prove to be a great blessing for your academic life. Convey my deep respects to father and mother.
