My dear Habib,

Your letter is just to hand. You have written to me after a long time. I hope that you will write to me in this way. You have desired to know how I have spent the last summer / winter vacation. During the last vacation, I visited my native village. I had a long cherished dream to do something for the illiterate section of our village. This time I had the opportunity to start a programme of adult education.

In our country most of the people are illiterate. Lack of education is a curse, because in its absence bigotry, fanaticism and superstition occupy the mind of an adult and he fails to see the truth of the matter. The illiterate people stand in the way of their children’s development. Illiterate fathers and husbands are particularly harsh on daughters and wives. Moreover, they are unaware of healthy and hygienic life, modern method of cultivation etc. All these things made me think for them. In the last vacation, I and some of my contemporaries together took the initiative to start an adult education programme. We took help from some of the school teachers who contributed their best. We got a positive respond from the villagers. They motivated by us eagerly participated in the programme. We taught them regarding alphabets, numbers, health, nutrition and sanitation. Thus our programme became successful. We hope that we will continue the programme in this way. I think you are also interested to participate in the programme next time.

My dear Chotan,

Your sweet note of the 15th instant is to hand. You will be highly pleased to know that I spent the last summer vacation in a very charming manner. Now I am giving you a short description about it.

During the last summer vacation, I came to my village home. I passed some days in the midst of my parents, brothers and sister. Afterwards, I went to my maternal uncle's house. I enjoyed a few days there happily. Then I visited my sister's house at Bagerhat in Khulna. There my brother-in-law and I arranged a hunting expedition in the Sundarban. It may be noted that there was a skilled hunter with us. After reaching Sundarban, we hunted a deer. Then we left the Sundarban and arrived in my sister's house. We passed the day joyfully. After my returning from Sundarban, I arranged a picnic at Rangamati with my friends of the village. We enjoyed the picnic with immense pleasure.

As my vacation was drawing near, I came back home and made preparation to start for Chittagong and reached the school hostel in time. Thus I spent the last summer vacation.

This time, I decided to do something different. [If summer: Instead of staying indoors, I spent a lot of time exploring nature and enjoying outdoor activities.] [If winter: The cold weather made everything feel cozy, and I found plenty of ways to enjoy it.]
