A rainy day means such a day when it rains continuously all day long during the rainy season. It is a common sight in our country. It is very dull and gloomy. In a rainy day the sky is covered with thick of black clouds. The sun is not seen in the sky. Sometimes it rains heavily cats and dogs. As a result, rivers, canals and tanks swell up. Roads and paths become muddy and slippery. Water stands here and there. Activities of normal life are stopped due to heavy rain. None can move freely without umbrella from one place to another. The common people cannot attend their respective places in time. If anybody wants to go outside, he has to take an umbrella with him. The poor and the day laborers do not like a rainy day. They cannot go out to earn their living. Their suffering knows no bounds. They go on starving. On the other hand, the rich enjoy the day in listening to music, watching TV, reading novels. A rainy day is most welcomed to the students, as they have no classes in the school. A rainy day brings joyous mood to the young boys of the same age and they are seen to bathe in rainwater with merriment. Those who have imaginary bent of mind enjoy the beauty of nature being drenched in rains. The cloudy sky lets loose their emotions. A rainy day has good effect on the soil. It helps plants to grow, flowers to bloom and nature looks fresh and beautiful. However, a rainy day is not pleasant to all.

MY EXPERIENCE OF A RAINY DAY
I experienced a rainy day which cut mark in my mind. At first there were some patches of clouds in the sky. Gradually, the sky became heavily overcast. Early in the morning, the wind began to blow, first slowly and then with greater intensity. Soon afterwards, it began to drip-drop. Within a few minutes, this developed into a downpour. I decided not to go to school. The rain was in shower for hours together. At 10 o’clock in the morning, I along with my cousin went outside taking umbrella with us. As the rain continued, the streets turned into streams of water. Some roads under repair became muddy and slippery. Most of the vehicles went off the roads. Only a few buses, cars and rickshaws ran slowly, splashing water on both sides. Most of the shops could not open and people had to be satisfied with what they had in their houses. Day labourers were passing the day idly. Some boys and girls like us found the day highly enjoyable. They took the day off and did not go to school. Some of them played in the pools of water and floated paper boats on the water in the streets. We returned home after two hours. I found that father also did not go to his office. He was listening to songs. Mother was cooking ‘khichuri’. At lunch time we had the food to our heart’s content. Then we all went to bed and had a sound sleep till the evening.

A RAINY DAY
Introduction: A rainy day means a day when the rain is so heavy as to interfere with normal life. Rainy day occurs specially in the rainy season. The monsoon breaks out in Bangladesh in the month of June. Rainy day comes after in rainy season when the monsoon wake.
Description: On a rainy day the sky often remains overcast with clouds. The sun is not seen all day. Here is a description of a rainy day. It was the month of Shraban. The sky had been overcast for a few days with occasional drizzles. On the 15th a heavy shower began at about 11 in the morning. I did not go to school that day. So, I began to watch the sight from the window. And it was a very nice sight. The roads and streets were under deep water. Many buses and private cars also were similarly stranded. Young children were floating paper boats on the water accumulated on the streets. Here and there were people walking slowly through the deep water with their cloths drawn up high above the ankle. The small side on the other side of our house was a vast sheet of water. The rain stopped after about an hour but it took a long time mare for the water to subside. I then came out to see the state of things in the lanes close by.
Scenes of roads and streets: All these brought up before my mind’s eye show a picture of village life on a rainy day. The roads there are unmetalled and get easily muddy and slippery. So, it must be difficult to walk along on such a day. Carts get stuck in the mud and carters are hard put to drag out the wheels. Ponds sometimes overflow to banks. And these troubles often continue for a couple of days even after the down pour has ceased.
Rainy day for the poor and the rich / Troubles for poor and rich: One who lives in the better type of houses, a shower of rain he often welcome. He sits quietly by the window and listens to the music of the pattering rainfall. On the other hand, the poor do not get work in the rainy day. Even they have to starve sometimes. So, the rainy day is painful to them.
Uneasiness of others: Rainy day causes serious problem to the villagers. When there is serious rainfall happen then every place go under water. As the place go under water, then boat is the only way to go one place to another. But most villagers are poor. Most of them have no boats. Some of them have to depend for their living on their daily earning. These people suffer a great deal during the rainy day.
Advantages: Yet the rainy day is more blessing to the people of Bangladesh than a curse. After the hot days of summer the first shower of a rainy day are cordially welcome. Rice, jute, sugar cane which are the main crops of Bangladesh grow well after the showers.
Conclusion: A rainy day cools the temper and it is a blessing to the people in a hot day and stuffy weather in Bangladesh. A rainy day is helpful for the farmer. Considering all things many poets have written many poems about rainy day. Our great poet Rabindranath Tagore loved the rainy day from the core of his hearth. One of his famous poem “Sonar Tari” was written in favour of rainy day.

Description of a rainy day: A rainy day presents dull and gloomy atmosphere. The sky remains cloudy all over all day long. The sun almost goes out of view. The dark gloomy atmosphere becomes frightening when flashes of lightning accompanied with peals of thunder pierce through the feeling of people. Gusty wind blows. Raining is apprehended any moment. Once it begins, it rains and rains. Sometimes there is a dust-storm just before it begins raining. But a heavy downpour following the dust-storm removes the dust. And soon, fields, roads, canals, ponds, etc fill up with water. The thirsty frogs get a chance to come out of their holes and begin to enjoy life in water.
People in villages remain indoors. Some peasants or day-labourers have to work in fields in rain. But in towns and cities people manage to attend offices and places of work by personal or public transports. But in most cases, people are compelled to enjoy a forced holiday. Students cannot reach their institutions and hence a holiday is officially allowed.
Its effects on life: A rainy day has an all-pervading effect on life. People have to change their courses of activities for obvious reasons. Children tend to change habit of going out. They play indoor games like carom, or gossip or, sing or, listen to music or, sleep. Housewives also tend to cook differently in a rainy day. They tend to cut-short their cooking and as a by- product of their arrangement, delicious dish like ‘Khichuri’ becomes a food of enjoyment for everybody. People with poetic flare become more emotional to compose songs and poems. Almost all Bengali poets, so, have written at least a few lines on a rainy day.
In the animal world, one would find opposing situations. Fish, frogs, snakes etc find life easy and enjoyable. But birds, domestic animals and wild animals suffer from want of adequate food and suitable weather. The scene of a crow sitting single on a branch of a tree must draw the sympathetic attention of anybody who happens to notice it. Despite its bad effect on the life of the poor and that of animals, a rainy day facilitates cultivation in different ways.
A particular rainy day: I also enjoy a rainy day since it creates situation to be away from work. But I will never forget one particular rainy day. It had been drizzling since morning that day. As I got near the school, I met some of my class fellows who, like me, were walking their way through the rains. They were all thoroughly drenched just as I was when at school, we pulled off our shirts and shoes and made a great noise. A bit later, the Headmaster and two other teachers came out of his room and found most of the examinees absent and saw our bad condition. We were wet from head to foot and were shivering with cold. So he bade us go home saying that there would be no examination that day. We again took the way in rains and came home back thanking our teachers and the rains.
Conclusion: Any day full of rains and allied things may be called a rainy day. But different rainy days have different effects on different people. A rainy day which can be appreciated by the rich and poor alike may be appreciated by all.

A rainy day occurs in the rainy season. On such a day it rains and rains without any break. No one can go out without an umbrella. The roads become muddy and slippery. Students fail to go to schools and colleges and if any of them go at all. They get wet on the way. So classes in schools and colleges do not sit. I give below the description of such a day in June last.
It had been drizzling since morning that day. I was having my meal when the sky became dark with dense clouds. I hastily finished my meal and made ready to go to school. Big drops of rain began to fall by then. Mother asked me to wait but that was not possible, for my First Term Examination began two days ago and the subject to be examined that day was English Paper 1.
I took my umbrella and set off. I had gone only a few steps when it began to pour. Soon it began to rain in torrents .So I took shelter in a wayside house. I was wet through and through. I pulled off my shoes and shirt and waited in the hope that the rains would soon cease.

He found most of the examinees absent and saw our sorry plight. We were wet form head to foot and were shivering with cold. So he bade us go home saying that there would be no examination that day.
So we again took the way in rains and came home back thanking our teachers and the rains.
