MY FAVOURITE HOBBY

My favourite hobby is gardening. I like it fora number of reasons. First, I am fond of nature and,gardening keeps me very close to nature. Secondly, it refreshes my mind with the beauty and fragrance of its flowers. Above all, it offers my house a fascinating look. But gardening is not an cast' task. I have to work hard for it. To make this garden, I selected a suitable piece of land. Then I have made a boundary around it. After that it was prepared for plantation of garden plants. I take care of the plants regularly. This is a traditional hobby. However, it provides me with lots of advantages. It makes our home fresh and beautiful by its fragrant flowers. It purifies my mind and sensibilities and gives me pleasure and mental satisfaction. Sometimes I sell flowers of my garden and,add to my income. However. I cannot spend much time in my garden. In the early morning I work there for more than an hour everyday. My garden is something different because it has various plants of rare collection.

A hobby is a man’s favourite pursuit or pastime. It is a thing that a man takes up for amusement and is not his main business. It keeps the mind happy and fresh. My hobby is stamp -collecting. I collect stamps from many sources and keep them nicely in my album. I am very much interested in collecting stamps of other countries of the world. I find in the stamps the pictures of important buildings, towers, mosques, beautiful gardens, national heroes, national flowers, birds and animals. It is very exciting to look at the stamps. The stamps are of different size, shapes, colours and price. So far as I have collected forty-nine different types of stamps of the countries like Great Britain, the U.S.A. Japan, France, India, Pakistan, Uganda, Saudi, Arabia, Iraq, and Iran. These stamps give me some knowledge of the history and geography of these countries. I also buy stamps from a stationery shop in the local market. My pen friend, a Japanese boy, also sends me stamps from Tokyo. Stamp-collecting is really a pleasant hobby and I am trying to collect more and more stamps.

When anyone becomes engaged in any occupation his mind works up to a certain period. Then the mind wants some change to restore its energy. Almost every man has a hobby. There are different hobbies like stamp collecting, gardening photography, angling, coin-collecting etc. My favourite hobby is coin collection. I take it as an interesting work in my leisure. I collect coins of various types and of various times of different countries. Both new and the old coins of different countries are in my collection. I usually collect coins from my relatives living abroad. My grandfather also helps me in collecting. He has given all the collection of coins of his student life. This coin collection has a great educative value I can know about the different national symbols of different countries from these coins. This hobby also creates then curiosity about those countries. My hobby is the main source of my pleasure. It gives me relief from my routine bound works. It helps me to forget the monotony and sorrow of daily life. So, every one should have a hobby out of his routine life.

Introduction: Hobby is not a compulsory business of life. It means one’s favourite occupation to pass one’s extra time in pleasure. Food is required for physical existence, but hobby is required for mind’s satisfaction. It refreshes one’s mind as well as body after fail. A hobby may not bring riches but it riches but it provides joy.

 

Kinds of hobbies: Hobbies are of many kinds. Different persons have different hobbies. Taking up a hobby depends on the temperament of a person. So, kite- flying, gardening, stamp-collecting, angling, photography, reading books, writing all these come under the specimens of hobby.

 

My hobby: I am a student. I, too, cannot line without hobby. My favourite hobby is gardening. Like gardening n other bobby can afford me so pleasure. I have a beautiful garden in front of my reading room. I pass my leisure hours in my garden. I feel joy and pleasure while I work in the garden. I visit my garden twice a day. My joys know no bounds when I go into my garden with the sunrise and see the plants in flowers. This time I spend a few minutes only. In the afternoon, I go to my garden and see a good number of various colours in bloom. I have planted seeds and plants of beli, chameli, marigold, lotus, sunflower, rose and other flowers.

 

I take good care of the plants. I root out the weeds and water the plants of my garden. I have made a fence around my garden. When I work in my garden my mind is filled with delight.

 

Usefulness: All work and no play make us dull and tired. Hobby takes us out from the dull and monotonous routine of daily life and gives us fresh energy for work and study. At the end of my hard work I forget its bitterness while I go to my garden. Others also get benefited from my garden. My father others comes into my garden and eyeing himself. I sometimes make a present of nice looking flowers to my brothers and sisters. These fill my mind with joys. On the days of festival my neighbours collects flower from my garden to decorate their houses. This is a thing of joy and pride to me.

Necessity: Many people pass their leisure time doing nothing. They waste time in idle gossip or loitering here and there. We know that an idle brain is the devil’s workshop. So, one can take up a hobby to be free from evil things and make oneself happy with useful or creative work. Besides, it relieves one from the cares and anxieties of everyday life. It may not bring riches but it provides joy.

Kinds of hobbies: There are many kinds of hobbies. They are stamp collecting, angling, gardening, reading, hunting, music, coin collecting, riding, photography, painting etc. One can adopt any of them according to one’s taste.

My favourite hobby: Among many hobbies, stamp collecting is my favourite one through which I can enjoy much. Stamp collecting is the act of collecting postage stamps as curiosities. Stamp collecting involves mainly two-fold considerations. I take to it as an interesting pastime. I collect stamps of various denominations. I collect stamps of various countries only to derive pleasure from them. I collect stamps, old and new, both local and foreign and put them in albums. I allot a page to each country and try to ascertain and put the dates below the stamps as accurately as possible. I am interested to become a member of Philatelic society. It will help us in procuring rare stamps of different countries of the world.

 

Why favourtie: This hobby is mine gives many things to me. It is pleasant because it asks for no physical labour. It is of great educative value. Stamps contain various things, events, rare animals and beautiful sights. Stamps are generally issued on occasion of great national importance or in commemoration of great historic events or in celebration of the birth or death anniversaries of great men. These are not only interesting but also of both historical and geographical value. Through this, I come in direct touch with historical, geographical and political conditional of many countries of the world. It is of absorbing interest, a perpetual side issue which always accompanies me. I am forever on the look out for a new discovery, for a friend to fill up a gap. I have friends all over the world with whom to consult and exchange interest and information. It thus helps me to get a pleasant relief from the pre-occupations of life, to build up a congenial fraternity of like-minded. The other aspect of my hobby is commercial value. Sometimes, the rare stamps are sold at an expensive price. It pays handsomely by bringing in sufficient money. Again, this hobby gives me ample opportunity to acquaint the foreigners with my own country, culture and way of living.

Limitation:      Many great men of the world have their hobbies. But we must be careful of our hobby time. A hobby will not remain a hobby if anybody is always busy with it neglecting his main business.

Conclusion: A hobby is necessary to make our life enjoyable. I am proud of my hobby. I never feel bored and tired because I work with my own interest.
