If I Win a Lottery
Man is fond of day-dreaming. I am not an exception to this universal fondness of man. I often day-dream that I would have won the first prize in a lottery. I do not, however, stop short at daydreaming. I often buy lottery tickets to translate my day dreams in reality.
Now if I win thirty lakh taka in a lottery, I will spend some amount towards my personal comforts and amenities. That is to say, I shall construct a two storied pucka building. I shall buy modern furniture. Then I will buy a latest coloured television set, a VCD, a computer, a motor cycle, a motor car and an automatic costly wrist-watch. I shall also buy for mother and sisters a number of costly saries of which they have so long dreamed of. I will also invite my friends and relatives to a grand feast.
Next, I will spend some amount of money for the alleviation of the sufferings of the masses. I will deposit some money in the bank and will help the needy and the distressed with the interest of this money from time to time. A few amount of money I will spend in establishing a night school where I will teach the illiterate villagers the three R's, the scientific methods of farming and the rules of health.
We have a charitable dispensary in our village. I have realized that the stock of medicine is very poor and inadequate. Now and then the patients die from want of medicine. I will also give one lakh taka for the improvement and betterment of the primary school of our village. Consequently, the villagers will be benefited.
The above, in short, is my programme of expenses if I am fortunate enough to win a lottery of Taka fifty lakh. This is my dormant desire.
WHAT I WOULD DO IF I WIN A LOTTERY
Lotteries are matters of mere chances. One does not have to show any skill or intelligence for it. The only thing necessary is to buy lottery tickets. Some people who buy many lottery tickets may not win any. On the other hand a blindman buying only one ticket may win the first prize.
I have bought a lottery ticket. I have done it to test my luck. If I win one lakh taka in the lottery I shall spend it most judiciously according to the advice of my parents.
At first I shall give the entire amount to my father. As we are almost landless people, I would request my father to buy some land where he can grow paddy, jute, sugarcane, oil seeds. etc. We shall spend about taka forty thousand for this purpose.
Then I shall reques-, my mother to make a list of the most essential things for our family. I like to spend about taka twenty thousand in
this connection. Then we shall buy good and tasteful clothes for the members of our family. I shall make my parents happy by giving them shoes, saree, lungi, shirt. I shall buy new school uniforms for
myself and my sister. Then I shall purchase two dictionaries—one from English to Bangla and the other from Bangla to English. I shall request my teachers to suggest me some useful and essential books which will serve the purpose of reference books in future.
We shall repair our old dwelling house and purchase some furniture and utensils for the house. I shall also donate some money to the local mosque and orphanage. After this I shall be left with only ten thousand taka. I shall open an account with a bank and keep the money there. The money will remain safe in the bank and annual interest will be added to it. Thus I will spend the lottery money.
