IELTS Speaking Part-1 Sharing

How do you celebrate the festival?

In my culture, the festival is a very family-oriented holiday. We usually have a special family dinner at home, followed by the countdown to midnight. Additionally, we have a unique tradition where, as the clock ticks down to midnight, we eat 12 grapes, each representing a wish for the upcoming months. Afterward, we head out to the city or town streets to celebrate with friends and exchange New Year's wishes.

What is the most popular festival in your country?

Christmas is definitely the most popular festival in my country, as we have a strong Catholic tradition. Nearly every town and city is adorned with Christmas lights and decorations. We also place significant emphasis on the Epiphany, or the Day of the Three Wise Men, which is celebrated on January 6th. This day is marked by gift exchanges and lively parades.

Do you like western festivals?

Absolutely! Western festivals like Christmas, Easter, and New Year's are integral to my upbringing and are very special to me. However, I also find eastern festivals fascinating. Having lived in Vietnam for two years, I was captivated by the Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival. These experiences broadened my appreciation for different cultural celebrations.

Where do people usually go during festivals?

During festivals, people often divide their time between homes and the streets. We hold festive meals at home, as we value home-cooked food. However, many also enjoy going out to celebrate at bars or in public spaces. For instance, on Christmas Eve, it's common to visit a bar with friends and celebrate until the early hours, followed by a family lunch the next day.

Have you shared anything with others recently?

Yes, recently I received a gift of six bottles of red wine. Since I can’t consume all of it, I shared three bottles with my friends. Red wine is considered a luxury in Asia, so sharing it is quite special. I enjoy sharing alcohol as it often creates a convivial atmosphere and brings people together.

What do you like to share?

I'm generally a generous person and enjoy sharing most things. However, I particularly like sharing food. I believe food is a fundamental way to spread joy, and it creates a win-win situation where everyone benefits and enjoys a good meal together.

What kinds of things are not suitable for sharing?

There are certain items I prefer not to share. For instance, due to my petite size, it's difficult to share clothes because finding my size is already a challenge. I also think it’s unsanitary to share personal items like toothbrushes or toothpicks, as they can carry germs.

Did your parents teach you to share when you were a child?

Definitely! Growing up with six siblings, sharing was a way of life. We often received hand-me-downs from older siblings, and during meals, we started with small portions to ensure everyone got enough. This practice ensured fairness and taught us the value of sharing from a young age.

How do you feel about sharing your personal space?

Sharing personal space can be challenging for me because I value my privacy. However, I understand that sharing is sometimes necessary, especially in communal settings. I try to establish boundaries to maintain a balance between personal space and shared areas.

What are the benefits of sharing with others?

Sharing can strengthen relationships and build trust. It fosters a sense of community and support, making interactions more meaningful. Sharing resources, whether food, time, or skills, can lead to more cooperative and harmonious environments.

Do you think sharing is important in a workplace setting?Yes, sharing is crucial in a workplace setting. It promotes teamwork and collaboration, which enhances problem-solving and innovation. Sharing knowledge and resources can lead to better outcomes and help create a positive and productive work environment.

What are some common items people like to share in your culture?

In my culture, food is a common item to share, especially during social gatherings and festivals. Sharing drinks is also typical, particularly when hosting guests. Additionally, people often share resources like books or tools within their communities.
