MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL
It is very sweet to call up childhood days. All my days were not equally happy now and I often met with unhappy days. So when I feel blank and dejected, I look back on my boyhood days and try to remember the happy events of those days. My first day at school is one of the memorable days of my life. Its memory is still fresh in my mind.
When I was a child my elder brother was a student. He was senior to me by three years. He went to school everyday. I pressed him to take me with him. Mother prevented him from doing it. When I attained the age of five, father proposed that I should by admitted in a school. I heard of it and was very glad. I was six years of age at the time of admission. An auspicious day was fixed for my admission. Mother washed me well, combed my hair and dressed me in new, costly clothes. Father also dressed himself in fine clothes and became ready. My father took me to the school. It was a very large building with about thirty rooms and a big hall. I was a little nervous at the beginning. But the sight of the boys of my age helped me to shake off the nervousness.
My father took me to the Headmaster’s room and requested him to admit me into class 1(one). I felt shy and stood with my eyes fixed upon the ground. But his loving and affectionate words rid me of the shyness. I looked at him and he, with a smile, asked me what my name was. I told him my name. He was glad and admitted me in class one. The Headmaster gave me some instructions and asked me to go to my classroom. Suddenly, I had a feeling of extreme loneliness. I parted from my father with a heavy heart. I entered a room marked class I-A. I was very shy and took my seat on the second bench. There were twenty-five boys of my age in the class. I felt a kind of shyness when I was led there. The class teacher was a lady. She at first asked me my name and told me to sit down. My class teacher spoke to me tenderly. On the first day there was not much teaching. The school broke up at 1 p.m. My father came and took me home. My first day at school was very pleasant. I shall never forget that happy day. I have still a vivid recollection of it.
