EID FESTIVAL
Eid-ul-Fitr is the greatest religious festival of the Muslims all over the world. It is celebrated with great joy throughout the Muslim world. All Muslims, especially the young ones, remain eager for Eid as it draws near. The very thought of it fills a Muslim’s heart with exceeding joy. During the month the Muslims fast, pray and make sacrifice. The month of Ramadan is the month of fasting and prayer. As an essential part of Islam, the month-long fasting prohibits all wrong, inhuman and harmful acts. It is a month of self-analysis and self-restraint. A Muslim passes through all the trials and rigours of the month. He is thus purified in heart and disciplined in character. When this month is over and the month of Shawal begins, his joy knows no bounds. Eid-ul-Fitr takes place on the first day of Shawal. On this day the Muslims make charity and give a fixed amount of money to the poor. Eid is also a communion of souls. It is the occasion for thanksgiving to the Almighty Creator. Eid is certainly an occasion for joy by pious Muslims who follow the commandments of Allah during Holy Ramadan. Eid in fact awakens in us the spirit that stimulates us in giving a concrete shape to our worldly and spiritual life. The common scene on Eid day is exchanging greetings after prayers, visiting family members, friends and neighbours. Thus Muslims resume their normal life after Ramadan. They become enriched and better prepared to work according to the dictates of Islam. On this occasion, we should pledge to establish an exploitation-free society on the basis of religious values and that is how we should observe Eid-ul-Fitr.
An Eid Day I Celebrated Or, A Religious Festival I Enjoyed
The Eid is one of the greatest festivals of the Muslims. The Muslims celebrate two Eid festivals a year. One is called Eid-ul-Fitre and another is Eid-ul-Azha. Eid-ul¬Fitre appears to the Muslims after the month of Ramadan. The other appears/ comes after 70 days. I come of a respectable Muslim family. Every year, our family celebrates Eid-Festivals very nicely. On the last Eid day I got up frombed before sun rise. After washing hands and face I said my morning prayer. I along with my younger sister decorated our house very nicely with coloured papers. flowers, festoons and baloons. Then I took/had my.bath with my neighbouring friends. At morning mother cooked very delicious foods like piais, semai,fimi, birani and many others sweets. I ate them with my heart's content. Then I put on dress. I went to the Eidgah Maidan with my grandfather, father, uncle, elder brother and cousins. After Eid-prayer, I embraced with our villagers. On returning from the Eidgah, I visited our neighbours and relatives. All the members of our family ate a rich food together at noon at home. In the afternoon I enjoyed a friendly football match held on our village playground. At night I enjoyed many interesting programmes on the TV screen. Thus, I celebrated the last Eid Day with great joy. An Eid-Day has a great importance in our life. It awakens love and affection. It also teaches us that there is no difference between high and low in the eye of Allah.

Eid-ul-Fitr is the biggest religious festival of the Muslims all over the world. I ho Eid marks the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan. The Muslims curiously wait for this significant day after keeping away from all sorts of wrong, inhuman and harmful activities on this day and the Muslims come closer to one another and exchange their greetings. The pleasure of the children knows no bound. They put on new dresses and visit houses of one another. On this day Muslims get up early in the morning and say their morning prayer. After taking bath they put on new dresses that is Punjabi and pajama and go to Eidgah to say their Eid prayer. After completing the prayer, they embrace each other and exchange greetings saying Eid Mubarak. Then they come back home and salute their elders. They take their foods especially made on that occasion. Wearing new dresses they go out to visit the friends, neighbours and relatives. On this day, we should pledge to establish an exploitation free society on the basis of religious values. Indeed Eid-ul-Fitr is a day of joy and happiness. It teaches us to love to all irrespective to rich and poor.

The word ‘Eid’ means coming back. The Muslims believe that on the occasion of Eid, the blessings of Allah come back to mankind. They fast, pray and make sacrifice. So Allah is pleased with them and sends His blessing on them. The month of Ramadan is the month of fasting and prayer. It is a month of self-analysis and self-restraint. A Muslim passes through all the trials and rigours of the month. He is thus purified in heart and disciplined in character. When this month is over and the month of Shawal begins, his joy knows no bounds.

On this day all rise very early. Children pass the night in excitement, and make various preparations. Some of them use fireworks and decorate and illuminate their houses. As soon as the day dawns all rise from their beds. They go to the pond and have their bath. Then they dress themselves in their best clothes. Meanwhile the womenfolk prepare ‘shemai’ and other kinds of sweets. Then all of them take sweets with great joy and merriment. Sweets are also distributed among the poor, friends and relatives. Poor people gather at the houses of the rich and the rich give them money and clothes.
This being over, all proceed towards the ‘maidan’ to offer prayers in congregation. Children also flock there in large number to see the assembly of the people. It is really an imposing sight when thousands of devout heads bow down to the Almighty and rise again in unison. When the prayer is over the ‘khutba’ or sermon is delivered by the leader of the congregation. In the course of the sermon, he speaks about the merit of Ramadan and Fitr. He also exhorts people to be virtuous. In the end, people embrace one another forgetting all enmity and rivalry among them. Then they come back to their respective houses where they are greeted by their mothers, wives and sisters. Children touch the feet of their superiors to get their blessings.
In the evening people visit the houses of their relatives and friends and pass their time in merry-making. Everywhere they are received with utmost cordiality and hospitality. Feasts and dinners and held in various places. At night many attend cinema shows or variety performances. Some join Eid re-union parties in clubs and hotels. Thus the day passes through great excitement and bustle. People go to bed late at night.
Eid-ul-Fitr has a great lesson for the Muslims. It teaches them to love all men and makes them feel a great bond of union among the Muslims.
