A Journey by train

Introduction: In “Pather Pachali” Apu’s only desire was to see a train and to travel in it. From the above conception we can understand that, A Journey by train was the matter of curiosity for   the people of that age. But in this dynamic age, the same desire is obviously observed in people’s mind. Really a journey by train is thrilling and at the same time interesting per suit to one and all because a train is the largest vehicle of the world and it is also different too.

Occasion: Naturally, I was looking forward to the commencement of the summer vacation. I had also decided to spend this vacation with my aunt at Dhaka.

Preparation: On the fixed day I reached the station at 7 a.m. A scene of great liveliness is offered by the station. Different kinds of conveyances were coming to the station with passengers. Coolies were running behind them. I bought a ticket from the booking office and got into a first class compartment of the Mahanagar Express.

The Journey:    The train became alive and began to move when the guard blew the whistle and waved the flag. I kept looking outside through the window. So the train sped up. The gentle breeze gave a touch of affection and love. The houses and the trees on both sides seemed to be running speedily backward. When the train left the station, the outstanding greenery of Bangladesh came into our view. The green crops were tossing their heads in the breeze. The nature was changing every moment. To see the farmers’ ploughing the lands and the boats sailing on the rivers, I was amazed. I gazed at the meadows, trees and houses with golden crops with a cheerful mind. Our train was moving on-

“Faster than fairies

Faster than witches,

Bridges and houses

Hedges and ditches”

Different things came to my vision and disappeared in the twinkling of an eye. I forgot the world around me and plunged into thought of oblivion for the time being. The train was passing everything and different stations where it stopped for some moments. This journey has a simile with our life. We stop for a short time at different stage of life but we are moving on and on towards eternity.

Reaching the destination: The sudden whistle of the train and the restlessness of the passengers brought me back to reality. At about 3 p.m. the train arrived at the station. Getting down from it with my luggage, I moved on to my destination.

A Journey by train

Introduction:

In Satyajit Ray’s “Pather Pachali”, Apu’s longing to behold a train and experience its motion resonates with a society in which the locomotive was a symbol of progress and modernity. Yet, in our current dynamic age, the allure of train travel remains ever-present. For truly, a journey by train is a thrilling and fascinating pursuit that captivates all who embark on it, as it offers a unique experience unparalleled by any other mode of transportation.

Occasion:

Anticipating the forthcoming summer vacation, I eagerly prepared for a journey to Dhaka to spend time with my aunt. And thus, at the appointed hour, I arrived at the bustling train station, where a lively atmosphere pervaded the scene, with various vehicles and their accompanying passengers converging, and coolies dashing about to and fro. There, I procured a ticket from the booking office and settled into a first-class compartment aboard the Mahanagar Express.

The Journey:

As the train came to life and began its journey with the guard’s whistle and flag waving, I peered out the window, mesmerized by the panoramic view. The gentle breeze outside, combined with the train’s acceleration, provided a tender caress of love and affection, as the verdant greenery of Bangladesh unfurled before our eyes. Fields of green crops undulated in the breeze, and the ever-changing scenery was awe-inspiring. Observing the farmers tilling their lands and boats sailing on the rivers, I was amazed, admiring the meadows, trees, and houses enveloped in golden crops with a cheerful mind. The train whisked past everything, crossing over “faster than fairies, faster than witches, bridges and houses, hedges and ditches”. Different sights came and went in a flash, and I lost myself in contemplation, oblivious to the world around me. The train stopped briefly at different stations, reminding me of the ephemerality of life and its fleeting moments, but we pressed on towards eternity.

Reaching the destination:

The sudden whistle of the train and the restless chatter of fellow passengers jolted me back to reality, signaling our arrival at the station around 3 p.m. Disembarking with my luggage, I made my way to my intended destination, reflecting on the journey and its impact on me.

Experience of the journey:

As a novice to train travel, this journey proved to be a transformative experience, opening my eyes to the diverse nature of humanity. Over the course of the journey, I engaged with fellow passengers and gleaned valuable insights into politics, national and international crises, and other topics of interest, broadening my perspective and deepening my understanding of the world.

Conclusion:

Thus, I can confidently assert that among all modes of transportation, train travel is a relatively new venture that offers an unforgettable experience. This journey, with its indelible impression and boundless joy, remains etched in my mind, stirring my imagination and evoking a sense of nostalgia. Indeed, a journey by train is an unparalleled adventure that appeals to the senses and captures the essence of life's fleeting moments.

                        A  JOURNEY  BY  TRAIN

Undoubtedly, embarking on a journey is a thrilling experience for individuals of all walks of life. Yet, for a student, it is even more attractive as it provides a means to escape the monotony of daily life, filled with books and the classroom. As such, I was eagerly looking forward to the start of my summer vacation and had decided to spend it with my aunt in the picturesque city of Chittagong.

As the day of my train journey drew near, my anticipation reached new heights. Finally, the day arrived when I had to depart from Chittagong. Carrying luggage while traveling is a tedious experience for me, particularly if the train is crowded. Consequently, I made a conscious effort to make the journey as light as possible.

I arrived at the station about thirty minutes before the train's scheduled departure. The station was a hub of frenzied activity, with rickshaws, motor cars, and other vehicles arriving with passengers, and coolies running behind them. A long queue had formed before the booking window, and I had to wait for some time before purchasing my ticket.

I had opted to travel second class and occupied a comfortable seat in a small compartment. Once the train started off after half an hour, I let out a sigh of relief. The train continued on its journey, and the passengers were pleasantly relieved by the cool breeze from the open spaces.

Upon leaving Tongi, the lush greenery of Bangladesh revealed itself to us. The train traversed through verdant paddy fields with sugarcane and jute plants swaying gently in the breeze. While my co-passengers either dozed off or were engrossed in their books and newspapers, I was captivated by the enchanting beauty of nature on either side of the train.

As the train was a mail train, it only stopped at crucial stations, and I observed the passengers getting on and off at each stop. The excitement and bustle of the passengers, the cacophony of the hawkers, and the swift movement of the railway staff were all fascinating sights. The grandeur of the sunset and the melancholy of the departing day were best observed from a train. The slow onset of darkness, the majestic setting of the sun, the flight of birds seeking shelter for the night, and the return of cattle to their sheds were all mesmerizing sights. I was so engrossed in them that I hardly noticed when the lights in the compartment were switched on. As darkness descended, the face of the earth disappeared, and only a few darker patches were visible, which were homesteads or bushes and groves.

It was around nine o'clock when the train arrived at Chittagong railway station. The train gradually slowed down and eventually came to a stop by the platform. One of my cousins was present at the station to receive me, and the journey had been truly delightful for me.

A JOURNEY BY TRAIN

A Journey is an exciting experience and pleasure to a man if he can afford that journey. In modern times man remains preoccupied with his daily activities and worldly affairs. A journey becomes all the more attractive and pleasant for a student as it provides him a relaxation with an escape from the monotonous daily routine. So being a student, my heart leaps up at the prospect of a journey by train. A journey by train is a very pleasant affair and troublesome also.

It was the sultry month of June. Our First Terminal Examination was over. The school was closed for the summer vacation. So, I got ready to start for Chittagong, my native place. My heart danced with joy to think about my native place and the journey by train. The day was fixed. With my light luggage, I reached the station about half an hour before the train’s departure. It was 1.30 p.m. The whole station was humming with bustling activity. Passengers of different destinations were coming to the station in available conveyances. Porters were running to and fro after the passengers with and for their luggage. Vendors were crying out loudly to sell their goods. I went towards the booking office to purchase my ticket from the train. I had to wait in the long queue for sometime and I collected my ticket.

As soon as the train was put on the platform, there began a tremendous rush for seats in compartments. My seat was beside a window and it was quite comfortable in the second-class compartment. At the scheduled time the whistle blew and the train with a long whistle began to move and I felt relieved. After moving slowly for sometime, the train gradually gathered speed. It was the time of early summer. So a gentle breeze through the open windows cooled the partially filled compartment.

The train was running on. I was carrying with me some novels, tit-bits, magazines and newspapers. For sometime I read. While my mind felt bored I gazed outside and enjoyed the proverbial greenery of our country. Most of the passengers in my compartments had either gone to sleep or were busy with books or magazines. There were some boys playing cards. Some were having peanuts or light snacks. But I enjoyed the nature’s screen display of greenery. All came to my view for a moment and then disappeared. Passing through varied and interesting scenery, we reached Comilla at 4 p.m. Then I took tiffin form the canteen inside the train. Once a ticket inspector came and checked the tickets of the passengers. As the train moved on, I felt little drowsy and had a short nap. Again I woke up and then the charming scenery of Nature kept me awake.

While the journey was going on, the train was running through fields. Peeping through the window lent me a charming sight. As the train was running at a great speed, the distant trees, bushes and houses, seemed to run to the opposite direction. I was delighted to see farmers at work in the fields with bullocks and ploughs. Bullock carts laden with goods, were moving on heavily along dusty roads. I enjoyed the boats sailing on the rivers. I even had the fortune of enjoying a grand sight of the setting sun very majestically. After Comilla, a distinct change was noticed in the landscape. The fields were undulating and the soil was reddish. After sometime, all nature --- the sky, the fields and the green woods was bathed in the silvery moonlight. It was a large disc of exquisite beauty. What a fun to enjoy all these tings!

When the train was near Chittagong station, the passengers were preparing to get down. The train gradually lost speed, slowed down and finally crawled and halted by the platform. The platform was lit up with lights. I was slightly weary of my journey of nearly six hours. Then I alighted from the train and went out of the station. Thus my train journey came to an end.

I felt extremely happy, relaxed and little change for such a wonderful journey by train. The scene of the memorable journey peeps into my mind in the moment of solicitudes when I become tired of the mechanical urban life. A journey in a train conveys physical thrill and excitement. Space and time, the external barriers of Nature are annihilated and destroyed while the speed, the swing and the rhythm of motion fill one with exhilaration.

A Journey by Train

My annual examination was over. I had recess for some days. During this time of the year the weather is good enough to make a journey. Incidentally, I with some of my friends took a sudden decision to go to my sister’s house in Chittagong y train. On the appointed day. I along with my three friends arrived at Kamalapur railway station before sunrise. We bought our tickets and got into the train just at 7 a.m.

When the guard blew the whistle and waves his green flag, the train started moving. After a few minutes it began running at a full speed. I, keeping myself aloof, sat beside a window with a view to looking outside through the window. The sun was rising with all its splendid beauty. Soon leaving urban areas, the train was running through the green fields of the rural areas. I gazed and gazed at the houses, trees and meadows with a cheerful mind. Everything seemed to be running swiftly in the opposite direction. They came to my vision and disappeared in the twinkling of an eye. The beauty of the scenery on either side of the train charmed my eyes.

I also enjoyed the mild jerking of the train and rhythmic sounds of the wheels. Now and then it crossed bridge over a river or a canal with a chattering noise. As it was an express train, it stopped only at a few big stations. At about noon we arrive within the areas of Chittagong district, I felt great joy seeing the hills on either side of the line, as I had never seen a hill before. After eight hour journey, the train reached Chittagong railway station at about 3 p.m. We got down from the train and went to my sister’s house by a taxi. Our return journey was equally a pleasant one.

This pleasant and enjoyable lasted for a few hours. But the journey left permanent impression in my mind. I will never forget the romance, thrill and charm of my first train journey and my first visit to Chittagong. The scene of the memorable journey peeps into my mind when I become tired of the mechanical urban life.

A Journey by Train I have Recently Enjoyed

Journey is always fascinating. It charms our minds and makes us happy. Journey is a break in our monotonous everyday life. After a journey, we feel relaxed and fresh. Peace fills our heart after we have made a really wonderful journey.

I made a journey by train with my friends last year. I received a letter from my uncle at Chittagong to attend the marriage ceremony of his daughter. I took some of my friends with me. Early in the morning I reached Kamlapur Railway station where I found my other friends. The train came. We got into the train and found our seats beside the window. The guard blew his whistle and waved his green flag, the engine slowly began to move and we glided out of the station.

Everything that we were passing was pretty and so we amused ourselves by looking through the windows. As the train winded away eastwards, we could see a number of hills and mountains. We passed by the green fields, beautiful watery areas and wonderful hillocks. Everything seemed very bright and pleasant to us. From the train, we could see the clear, green waters and women and small boys and girls swimming happy and taking bath in the ponds and rivers.

At last at 4 p.m. we reached Chittagong. The journey seemed to me like a dream. However, when we reached Chittagong, we found my uncle waiting for us. He welcomed us and took to his residence. Thus our wonderful journey ended very beautifully.
