The Naughty Boys and the Frogs

There was a pond full of frogs. Some of them often put their heads out of the water and croaked loudly. One day, some boys were playing by the side of the pond. The pond was a peaceful place, surrounded by tall grass and colorful wildflowers. It was home to many families of frogs, from tiny bright green ones to large, deep-voiced bullfrogs. On this particular sunny afternoon, three friends—Ratul, Siam, and Fahim—were walking back from their school. They were looking for some excitement to kill time before heading home.

When they reached the edge of the pond, they noticed the frogs enjoying the cool water. Every now and then, a frog would pop its head up and let out a happy croak, enjoying the warmth of the sun. To the boys, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for a game. "Let's see who has the best aim!" Ratul suggested, picking up a smooth, heavy stone from the path.

The other two joined in immediately. They began throwing stones into the water with all their might, aiming directly at the spots where the frogs appeared. Whenever a stone landed near a frog or made a big splash, the boys would cheer and laugh. They didn't think about the pain they were causing; to them, it was just a test of skill and a way to pass the afternoon. They weren't trying to be "evil" in their own minds; they were simply being thoughtless and indifferent to the lives of the small creatures.

Suddenly, a large, elderly frog with wise, bulging eyes swam toward the shallow bank, very close to where the boys were standing. He didn't hide; instead, he stayed still and looked directly at them. The boys paused, surprised and curious about why this frog wasn't jumping away in fear like the others.

"Please, young masters," the old frog seemed to say in a croaky but steady voice. "Why are you attacking us? What have we done to harm you?"

Fahim laughed and replied, "We aren't attacking you! We're just having a bit of fun. It’s just a game to see who can hit the target."

The old frog sighed sadly, his throat swelling as he spoke. "I understand that it is fun for you," he replied. "But have you considered what it is for us? To you, this is a sport, but to us, it is a matter of life and death. Every stone you throw breaks a limb or takes the life of one of my family members. Your 'fun' is our tragedy."

The boys went silent. They looked at the stones still clutched in their hands and then at the ripples in the water where the other frogs were hiding in terror. The realization hit them hard. They hadn't intended to be cruel, but their lack of empathy had caused real suffering. Feeling deeply ashamed, Ratul dropped his stone into the grass. Siam and Fahim did the same.

"We are so sorry," Ratul whispered, realizing that their amusement had come at a terrible price. They realized that true strength isn't about hurting those who are smaller; it’s about respecting all living things. From that day on, the boys became the protectors of the pond, making sure the frogs could croak in peace.

Moral: What is play to one is death to another.

The Naughty Boys and The Frogs

There was a pond full of frogs. Some of them often put their heads out of the water and croaked loudly. One day some boys were playing by the side of the pond. They were so naughty that whatever they found turned it into a new game, whether it was good or harmful. The people remained anxious for those wicked boys. They were many in number. They used to run here and there. Again they did not pay heed to anybody’s advice.

When one day they heard the frogs croaking they began to throw stones at the frogs and made fun. The frogs were very much puzzled and did not know what to do. They were afraid of getting killed. All the frogs at once went down into the water. But the boys remained standing there with stones in their hands. The new game was a great fun to them. They went on pelting the frogs with stones when they raised their head above the water. Thus many frogs were hit hard and few were killed.

At last an old frog raised its head and said, “Dear little boys, why do you hurt us? Oh boys please!  please!  Stop the fun. Don’t throw stones at us. We don’t do any harm to you. Why do you become so cruel to us? Some of us have already died. Many of us have been hurt.”

“We’re just playing. We don’t hurt you. We’re only throwing the stones,” The boys said. The old frog said to the boys, “Please stop you cruel play. Because what’s play to you is death to us.” the boys became very sorry and ashamed. So they stopped their game and went home.

The naughty Boys and the Frogs

In a certain village, there existed a pond that was notorious for its murky and unclean water. The pond was home to many frogs, who spent their days in the water, enjoying each other's company. One day, a group of boys happened to pass by the pond and noticed the presence of frogs, crabs, and snails. Without warning, they began to hurl stones at the unsuspecting amphibians, finding it amusing to see them scatter and jump. Some of the frogs were injured, and others lay dying. The boys were relentless in their cruel sport, throwing more stones with each passing moment. The frogs were distraught, unsure of how to save themselves from the unprovoked violence.

In an effort to reason with the boys, the oldest and wisest frog among them approached the children and asked, "Dear little boys, why are you pelting us with stones? We have never done any harm to you. Why are you being so cruel to us? Some of us have already perished, and many more of us have been injured." The boys, who were under the impression that they were just playing, replied, "We are only having fun. We don't mean to hurt you. We are only throwing stones."

The old frog then made a plea to the boys, saying, "I implore you to stop this cruel game of yours, for what seems like play to you could result in death for us." The boys, realizing the error of their ways, felt remorseful for their cruel behavior. They ceased their violent activities and left the pond with heavy hearts, vowing never to harm the innocent creatures again.
