The Honesty of a Taxi-Driver

One day, a man was traveling to Kamalapur by taxi. He had a purse with him, containing a considerable amount of money. In his hurry, the man paid the fare but accidentally dropped the purse inside the taxi while trying to put it back into his pocket. He went on his way without noticing that he had lost it.

The taxi-driver, upon discovering the purse in his vehicle, immediately realized that it likely belonged to his previous passenger. Understanding that the man might be heading to Kamalapur Railway Station to catch a train, the driver quickly parked his taxi near a shop and asked the shopkeeper to watch it. He then rushed to the station in search of the man.

At the station, the driver found the man sitting inside a train. He asked the man about his lost purse. The man immediately checked his pocket but realized it was gone. Upon realizing what had happened, he was overjoyed and thankful to the driver for his honesty. He offered the driver a reward, but the driver refused, saying, "If I have done any good for you, Allah will reward me."

The incident teaches us the value of honesty. Just like the taxi-driver, we should strive to live honest lives. An honest life is a meaningful life, and no one should die without having lived it with integrity.

He thought that the man was, no doubt, to get into a train at Kamalapur Railway Station. The driver ran at the station after keeping his taxi before a shop, requesting the shopkeeper to watch it. He was looking for the man who left the purse inside the taxi. lie found the man sitting inside the train. He asked him about his purse. At once the man put his hand into his pocket but found nothing. He realised the accident and became pleased with the taxi-driver. He wanted to give some money to the driver, but the driver refused. He said, "If I have done any benefit to you, Allah will award me."

Everyone should be honest like the taxi-driver. An honest life is a real life. None Should die without forming an honest life.

He was constantly checking his watch and urging the driver to go faster through the dense Dhaka traffic. In his rush to get to the terminal on time, he was preoccupied with his luggage and travel documents, completely unaware of the small leather purse that had slipped from his pocket onto the floor of the cab.

The cab driver, a man named Abid Ali, was a simple and hardworking person who struggled every day to provide for his family. After dropping Mr. Rahman at the departure gate and receiving his fare, Abid Ali drove away to find his next passenger. However, as he stopped at a red light, he glanced into the rearview mirror and noticed a dark object on the back floor. He pulled over to the side of the road and picked it up. To his utter amazement, the purse contained three thousand US dollars, an air ticket, and an international passport.

Abid Ali was taken aback. He had never seen so much foreign currency in his life. For a moment, a thought crossed his mind about how this money could solve all his financial problems—he could pay off his debts and repair his old house. But his conscience immediately struck him. He realized that the passenger must be in a state of total panic. Without that passport and ticket, the man's entire trip would be ruined.

Abid Ali immediately turned his cab around and rushed back to the airport. He searched the crowded terminal for over an hour, calling out descriptions of the passenger, but he found no trace of him. He was in a fix and very upset, as he didn't want the man to miss his flight. Finding no other way, he drove to the nearest police station and submitted the purse to the duty officer, explaining exactly what had happened.

With the help of the information in the passport, the police were able to trace Mr. Rahman, who was sitting in the lounge, devastated and nearly in tears. When he was called to the station and saw his belongings safe, he was overwhelmed with emotion. He realized that the honesty of this humble driver was worth far more than the three thousand dollars. He tried to offer Abid Ali a reward of three hundred dollars as a token of gratitude, but the driver politely refused, saying that he had only done his duty. Abid Ali’s rare honesty became a unique example for everyone to follow.

Moral: Honesty is a jewel that shines even in poverty.

AN OLD FARMER AND HIS SONS

Once upon a time there was an old farmer. He lived with his wife and three sons in a small village. The three sons always quarreled themselves and got separated. This made the farmer unhappy. He tried to bring them to their senses but failed. One day when the three sons were quarrelling, he said, “Stop! Don’t quarrel! It’s bad! But they didn’t listen to him.

Again one day when the sons were quarrelling and the old farmer heard them, he took a plan in his hand. He called all the sons and asked them to bring three sticks. The three boys brought the sticks and rope for their father. The old farmer then tied the stick together with the rope then he said to his sons, “Now try and break this bundle of sticks.” The three boys tried and tried, but they could not break the bundle of sticks. Then their father untied the sticks and gave one stick to each of her sons. “Now,” he said, “Try and break your stick.” This time they all broke their sticks easily.

The sons got curious to know the reason of those activates. They said all to the father, “Why have you made us do these jobs, dear father? What good will come of it?” Then the wise father told the sons, “Wait a bit, dear sons. I’m making it clear to you.” Now the father drew their attention to the tied bundle and the separate sticks. He explained to them that when the sticks were tied in a bundle, it was impossible for them to break the sticks. But when the sticks were made separate from one another, it was very easy to break them. He asked them to take a good lesson from it. The man could successfully make them understand that if they (the sons) remained united, they would remain as strong as the bundle of sticks. But if they remained separate from one another like the untied sticks, they would be as weak as a separate stick. He also told them that if they remained united, nobody would be able to do any harm to them. So he strongly advised them to always remain united and not to quarrel among themselves any more in future. The sons could realize everything and they promised not to quarrel or do any evil among themselves.

Thus the old man could effectively teach his sons the valuable proverb, “United we stand, divided we fall.”

একদিন তিনি তাঁর ছেলেদের ডেকে বললেন, আমাদের জমিতে ধন-সম্পদ লুকানো আছে। যদি তোমরা জমি খোঁড়ো, তাহলে সেটা পাবে। দুই ভাই খুব উত্তেজিত হয়ে জমি খোঁড়া শুরু করল। কিন্তু পুরো জমি খুঁড়ে ফেলার পরও তারা কোনো ধন-সম্পদ পেল না।

তারা খুবই ক্লান্ত ও হতাশ হয়ে পড়ল। তখন এক ভাই বলল, আমরা যখন জমি খুঁড়েই ফেলেছি, তাহলে কিছু ফসল লাগাই না কেন? অন্য ভাইও এতে সম্মতি দিল। তাই তারা জমিতে ভুট্টা লাগাল। কিছুদিন পর ভুট্টা বড় হয়ে উঠল, এবং তারা সেগুলো বিক্রি করে অনেক টাকা পেল। তখন তারা বুঝতে পারল যে তাদের বাবা যা বোঝাতে চেয়েছিলেন, সেটাই হলো সত্যিকারের ধন-সম্পদ—পরিশ্রম।

এরপর থেকে দুই ভাই নিয়মিত পরিশ্রম করতে শুরু করল। কিছুদিনের মধ্যে তারা ধনী হয়ে গেল এবং গ্রামের সবাই তাদের সম্মান করতে লাগল।

এই গল্পটি আমাদের শেখায় যে পরিশ্রমই সাফল্যের আসল চাবিকাঠি। সফল হতে ধৈর্য দরকার, কিন্তু যদি আমরা নিয়মিত চেষ্টা করি, তাহলে আমরা আমাদের লক্ষ্য অর্জন করতে পারব।
