Nation Celebrates Victory Day

Staff Reporter, Dhaka, July 5, 2018: The nation celebrated the 46th Victory Day amid festivity yesterday, paying homage to three million martyrs and freedom fighters of the Liberation War. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar in the morning to pay tributes to the martyred freedom fighters. As part of the day’s programmes, a colourful parade was held at the National Parade Square in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. President Abdul Hamid took salute and inspected the parade as the chief guest. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, freedom fighters and top officials of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies were present. They hoped that coordinated efforts of everyone would turn Bangladesh into a hunger- and poverty-free prosperous “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Bangabandhu.  National flags were hoisted atop all government and private buildings yesterday, while the government and semi-government structures and other public places were illuminated and roads and islands in all cities were decorated with flags and festoons. Different organisations observed the day by holding discussions, cultural programmes, candlelight vigils, musical soirees, street dramas, painting shows and poetry recitation sessions. Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country. Destitute children were allowed to visit the Shishu Park in the capital’s Shahbagh free of cost. Special meals were served in jails, hospitals, orphanages and vagrant homes across the country. The Bangladesh Postal Service issued five commemorative postage stamps, two first-day covers, two data cards and a souvenir, marking the 46th Victory Day. The genesis of our struggle traces back to the dark days of March 25, 1971, when the oppressive rulers of Pakistan unleashed a brutal crackdown, imposing martial law upon our land. In the face of adversity, our brave sons and daughters, including members of the armed forces, rallied together to resist tyranny and fight for our cherished ideals of liberty and sovereignty. Through nine months of relentless struggle, marked by untold hardship and profound loss, they emerged triumphant, securing our nation's independence at the cost of countless lives.

As we gather to commemorate Victory Day, our hearts swell with pride and gratitude for the sacrifices of those who paved the way for our freedom. Their legacy lives on in the annals of history, inspiring future generations to uphold the values of courage, resilience, and unity. May the spirit of Victory Day endure as a beacon of hope and resilience, guiding us towards a future defined by peace, progress, and prosperity.

Majestic Celebration of National Victory Day at Sylhet MC College

Tanvir Hossain, Staff Reporter, Sylhet, December 18, 2025: The 54th National Victory Day was observed at the historic Sylhet MC College campus yesterday with profound reverence, patriotic zeal, and a renewed pledge to uphold the secular spirit of the 1971 Liberation War. The day-long commemorative program began just after sunrise with the solemn hoisting of the national flag by the College Principal, accompanied by the vibrant rendition of the national anthem by the college choir.

Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, a grand mourning procession, joined by hundreds of students, faculty members, and local administrative officials, marched toward the central Shaheed Minar to place floral wreaths in honor of the martyred freedom fighters. The atmosphere grew deeply emotional as a one-minute silence was observed to pray for the salvation of the brave souls who made the supreme sacrifice for an independent Bangladesh.

Later in the morning, an intellectual seminar titled "The Spirit of 1971 in Building a Modern Bangladesh" was hosted in the college auditorium. Victory Day Celebrated with Great Joy at Barishal Zilla School

Local Correspondent, Barishal, December 17, 2025: Barishal Zilla School celebrated the great Victory Day of Bangladesh yesterday with massive joy and respect. The whole school was beautifully decorated with red and green flags, colorful paper festoons, and pictures of our brave national heroes.

The program started at 7:00 a.m. when the Headmaster of the school proudly hoisted the national flag in the middle of the school playground. All the teachers and students stood straight and sang "Amar Sonar Bangla" together. After that, a colorful morning rally walked through the main roads of the town. Many students wore traditional red and green clothes and carried placards showing love for the motherland.

At 10:00 a.m., an exciting sports competition was arranged for the students. Boys and girls participated in running, jumping, and a very funny tug-of-war game. But the best part of the day was the discussion meeting. A local freedom fighter was invited as the special guest. He told the students how the brave Muktijoddhas defeated the Pakistani army in 1971 after a long nine-month war. At the end of the program, the Headmaster distributed prizes among the winners of the sports events and gave sweet packets to all the students.

Our School Celebrates the 16th of December

Staff Reporter, Faridpur, December 17, 2025: The 16th of December is a very happy and proud day for all of us. It is our Victory Day. Yesterday, our school in Faridpur celebrated this great day with a lot of fun and respect.

Early in the morning, all the students came to the school wearing red and green dresses. Our Headmaster pulled the rope to fly the national flag high in the sky. We all stood in a straight line, saluted the flag, and sang our national song loudly.

Then, we went to the school hall room. Our teachers told us stories about the brave freedom fighters who fought for our country many years ago. Because of their hard work, we got a free country named Bangladesh. Some of my friends acted in a small drama about the war, and some girls danced to beautiful patriotic songs. Everyone clapped their hands and enjoyed the show.

In the end, our teachers gave us chocolates and biscuits. We promised to study hard, become good humans, and always love our beautiful motherland. It was a very good day for everyone.

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার, ফরিদপুর, ১৭ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৫: ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর আমাদের সবার জন্য একটি খুব আনন্দের এবং গর্বের দিন। এটি আমাদের বিজয় দিবস। গতকাল ফরিদপুরে আমাদের স্কুল অনেক মজা এবং শ্রদ্ধার সাথে এই মহান দিনটি উদযাপন করেছে।

খুব সকালে সব শিক্ষার্থী লাল-সবুজ পোশাক পরে স্কুলে আসে। আমাদের প্রধান শিক্ষক দড়ি টেনে জাতীয় পতাকাটি আকাশে উঁচুতে ওড়ান। আমরা সবাই এক লাইনে সোজা হয়ে দাঁড়াই, পতাকাকে স্যালুট করি এবং জোরে জোরে আমাদের জাতীয় সংগীত গাই।

এরপর, আমরা স্কুলের হলরুমে যাই। অনেক বছর আগে আমাদের দেশের জন্য লড়াই করা সাহসী মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের গল্প আমাদের শিক্ষকরা শোনান। তাদের কঠোর পরিশ্রমের কারণেই আমরা বাংলাদেশ নামের একটি স্বাধীন দেশ পেয়েছি। আমার কয়েকজন বন্ধু যুদ্ধ নিয়ে একটি ছোট নাটকে অভিনয় করে, আর কয়েকজন মেয়ে সুন্দর দেশাত্মবোধক গানের তালে নাচে। সবাই হাততালি দেয় এবং অনুষ্ঠানটি উপভোগ করে।

শেষে, আমাদের শিক্ষকরা আমাদের চকলেট এবং বিস্কুট দেন। আমরা কঠোর পড়াশোনা করার, ভালো মানুষ হওয়ার এবং আমাদের সুন্দর মাতৃভূমিকে সবসময় ভালোবাসার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিই। সবার জন্যই এটি একটি খুব ভালো দিন ছিল।]
