One day, as usual, she was busy at her work. The large hall was filled with the constant hum of sewing machines and the chatter of women. Nasima was focusing on stitching the sleeves of a batch of export-quality shirts. It was a hot Tuesday afternoon, and everyone was looking forward to the end of the shift.

Suddenly, the peaceful environment was shattered by a piercing scream from the far end of the floor. "Fire! Fire! The building is burning!" a voice yelled. Within seconds, the word "fire" echoed through the entire factory. Nasima looked up, startled. She didn't see any flames or smell any smoke, but the sight of hundreds of people jumping up and running toward the exits sent a wave of terror through her.

The situation turned into total chaos. The factory had several emergency exits, but in their blind panic, almost everyone rushed toward the main staircase. People were pushing, shoving, and climbing over one another to get out. Some workers tripped over bundles of cloth and were nearly trampled by the crowd. The air was filled with the sounds of crying, screaming, and the crashing of chairs. Nasima felt her heart racing, and for a moment, she too wanted to run blindly.

However, she noticed something strange. There was no heat, no crackling sound of wood burning, and no thick black smoke—the usual signs of a factory fire. She tried to tell her colleagues to slow down and be careful, but no one was listening. In the middle of the staircase, a young woman fell down, and the crowd behind her didn't stop. Nasima managed to pull the girl to the side and helped her stand up, shielding her from the rush.

Outside, two fire trucks arrived with their sirens blaring. The firefighters rushed into the building with their hoses ready, only to find everyone coming out in a frenzy. After a thorough search of every floor, the fire chief came out and announced that there was no fire at all. It turned out that an old fluorescent light bulb had flickered and popped with a small spark, and a nearby worker had panicked, starting the rumor that the factory was on fire.

By the time the rumor was proven false, nearly thirty workers had been injured in the stampede. Some had broken bones, and many were in deep shock. Nasima stood in the factory yard, watching the injured being taken to the hospital. She felt a deep sadness. A simple, unverified rumor had caused more damage and pain than an actual fire might have. She realized that in any crisis, staying calm and verifying the truth is just as important as the escape itself.

Moral: Panic and rumors are often more dangerous than the real danger.

পরিস্থিতি পুরোপুরি বিশৃঙ্খল হয়ে পড়ল। কারখানায় বেশ কয়েকটি জরুরি বহির্গমন পথ ছিল, কিন্তু অন্ধ আতঙ্কে প্রায় সবাই মূল সিঁড়ির দিকে দৌড়াতে শুরু করল। মানুষ বের হওয়ার জন্য একে অপরকে ধাক্কা দিচ্ছিল এবং একজনের ওপর দিয়ে অন্যজন যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করছিল। কিছু শ্রমিক কাপড়ের বান্ডিলের ওপর হোঁচট খেয়ে পড়ে গেল এবং প্রায় পদদলিত হওয়ার উপক্রম হলো। চারপাশ কান্নাকাটি, চিৎকার এবং চেয়ার উল্টে পড়ার শব্দে ভরে উঠল। নাসিমা অনুভব করল তার হৃদস্পন্দন বেড়ে গেছে এবং এক মুহূর্তের জন্য সে নিজেও অন্ধের মতো দৌড়াতে চাইল।

তবে সে একটি অদ্ভুত বিষয় লক্ষ্য করল। সেখানে কোনো উত্তাপ ছিল না, কাঠ পোড়ার শব্দ ছিল না এবং কোনো ঘন কালো ধোঁয়াও ছিল না—যা সাধারণত কারখানার আগুনে দেখা যায়। সে তার সহকর্মীদের ধীরে চলার এবং সাবধানে থাকার কথা বলার চেষ্টা করল, কিন্তু কেউ শুনছিল না। সিঁড়ির মাঝখানে এক যুবতী পড়ে গেল এবং পেছনের ভিড় থামছিল না। নাসিমা কোনোমতে মেয়েটিকে একপাশে টেনে আনল এবং তাকে উঠে দাঁড়াতে সাহায্য করল, তাকে মানুষের ধাক্কা থেকে আড়াল করে রাখল।

But no one noticed whether there was actually any fire or not. Having just heard the news, without any confirmation, all the workers of the factory became desperate to come out side.

But the factory had only one exit. And the path which led to this gate was very narrow. Even three men or women could not pass through this path side by side at a time. So, when all the workers of the factory were trying to come out along this narrow path, the path became congested with the workers. Many workers fell down on the path because of the jostling in the crowd and were trampled by the other workers. Some of them received severe injuries. In a word, a chaotic situation had been prevailing in the factory.

After observing the situation, the authority of the factory -took steps to pacify the workers. The authority announced through loud speaker that the news was a rumour and no fire had broken out. Actually, a pipe containing colour had burst out in the dying, section but it caused no casualties. After hearina, this announcement twice, the workers understood their follies and went back to their work.

Due to the jostling and overcrowding, many laborers stumbled and were trampled underfoot by their colleagues, resulting in severe injuries. In short, a state of chaos reigned within the factory.

After surveying the situation, the management intervened to quell the disturbance. Through a public address system, they announced that the fire was a mere rumor, and no actual blaze had occurred. In reality, a pipe filled with dye had burst in the dyeing section, but there had been no fatalities. After hearing this statement twice, the workers comprehended their mistake and returned to their respective duties.
