Describe a piece of technology (not computer‑related) that you like to use

This is a tricky question because there are a number of things, but if I had to choose just one I’d go for the television. I realise that this might not be the most obvious answer, as it could be considered old-fashioned and outdated nowadays and there are a number of devices such as smartphones and tablets to name but a few that would be regarded as more multi-functional or trendy; however, I am a massive TV addict so that’s why I’m such a fan of this technological device.

One of the major reasons why it is such a great invention is that not only can family members watch their favourite programmes on TV, but they can also bond when they are spending time together. It is often only during family viewing time that families sit together in the living room. I am glad that it was invented for this reason.

In addition to this, there are fewer distractions when you are watching the TV. In the past, parents used to moan when their kids were sitting in front of the TV for hours on end, but some parents now prefer their children to be watching the box rather than being on computers, iPads or other such gadgets. This is mainly because the TV is safer than computers or phones, as there is more control over the content and there are no weirdos who are trying to chat with them, which can happen when children are playing online video games.

As for when it was invented, I’m afraid I have absolutely no idea, but if I were to hazard a guess, I’d say in the thirties or forties. I feel such a philistine because I don’t know who invented it either, but whoever it was, they were a genius.

When considering technology that I appreciate, one standout choice for me is the television. Although it might seem a bit old-fashioned compared to modern gadgets like smartphones and tablets, the TV remains a beloved piece of technology for me.

The television, in its early form, was invented in the 1920s, with significant advancements in the 1930s and 1940s. It revolutionized how people received information and entertainment. Initially, it was a groundbreaking invention that brought moving images into homes, allowing families to enjoy news broadcasts, entertainment, and educational programs.

I like using the television for several reasons. One major advantage is that it provides a shared experience for family members. Watching TV together is often a bonding activity where everyone can sit down, relax, and enjoy their favorite shows or movies. This communal viewing time can be a great way to connect with loved ones, especially in today's fast-paced world where we are often busy with our individual activities.

Additionally, the television offers fewer distractions compared to other digital devices. While computers and tablets can be sources of numerous online distractions and potential risks, the TV provides a more controlled environment. There are fewer opportunities for unwanted online interactions or distractions, making it a safer choice for both children and adults.

Furthermore, I appreciate the simplicity and ease of use of a TV. Unlike some newer technologies that can be complicated or require constant updates, the TV remains straightforward and reliable for entertainment. Its ability to bring people together and provide a reliable source of information and enjoyment makes it a cherished piece of technology in my life.
