IELTS Speaking Part-2 A person who made you laugh when you were a child

Describe a person who made you laugh when you were a child

You should say:

·         Who the person was

·         What the person did to make you laugh

·         Why this person made you laugh

·         And explain how you felt about it

I was struggling to decide who to choose to talk about because, to be perfectly honest, I had a happy childhood and our home was always filled with laughter. My parents both have/had a great sense of humour and they try to see the bright side of everything and

are/were always ready for a laugh. However, I’ve decided to talk about my brother in particular because to this day he still makes me laugh. He’s a couple of years younger than me, but he’s never been an annoying little brother and we have always got on really well with each other.

He’s much more outgoing than me and likes to be the centre of attention. At parties, he’s the life and soul of the party. I’m not a social butterfly and prefer to stay at home. He’s the extrovert and I’m the introvert. As a child, I often had my head in a book, whereas he was always joking around. I tend to take life too seriously so if I came home from school and was in a bad mood because I had failed a test, he always cheered me up.

Whenever I am in a foul mood, there are not many people who know how to make me laugh, but he can. He used to act like an idiot and do stupid things like falling over to make me laugh. He doesn’t do that anymore, nowadays he is incredibly witty and his dry sense of humour makes me laugh out loud. He’s a brilliant storyteller and when he tells me what he’s been up to/what he’s been doing, usually by the end of the story I am laughing my head off.

Life is short and most of the time it is pretty rubbish so having a laugh and seeing the funny side of things is essential. I think I am less uptight* because of him and don’t get too stressed/anxious about things because he used to make me laugh when bad things happened when we were growing up. I learned a lot from him and I’m definitely more chilled because of him.

Describe a Person Who Made You Laugh When You Were a Child

The person who made me laugh the most when I was a child was my younger brother. Although he is just a couple of years younger than me, he has always been a source of endless laughter and joy.

From an early age, my brother was much more outgoing than I was. He loved being the center of attention and had a knack for making people laugh. At family gatherings and parties, he was always the life and soul, constantly engaging in playful antics and jokes. In contrast, I was more of an introvert and often preferred spending time alone with a good book. Despite our differences, we got along exceptionally well, and he had a unique ability to lift my spirits.

One of the things that made him so amusing was his talent for acting silly. Whether it was pretending to be a clumsy fool and falling over for comedic effect or making goofy faces, he had a natural flair for humor. Whenever I came home from school feeling down, especially if I had a rough day or had failed a test, he would effortlessly cheer me up with his antics.

As we grew older, his humor evolved from physical comedy to a more sophisticated, witty style. His dry sense of humor and clever storytelling became his trademarks. He had an incredible way of weaving everyday events into hilarious stories that would leave me in stitches. Even today, his ability to make me laugh has not diminished. His sharp wit and engaging narratives never fail to brighten my day.

Having someone like him around was a blessing, especially during challenging times. His humor helped me see the lighter side of life and taught me not to take things too seriously. I believe his influence has made me less uptight and more relaxed. I’ve learned to appreciate the humor in difficult situations and not let stress overwhelm me. His ability to bring joy and laughter into my life has had a lasting impact, and I’m grateful for the countless moments of laughter we shared growing up.
