IELTS Speaking Part-1 Films / Movies

  1. Do you like to watch films?

Absolutely! Films are an excellent way to unwind. Additionally, my friends are really into movies, so it’s a fun and relaxing way to spend time together. After watching, we often discuss and debate the film, delving deeper to uncover any subliminal messages or hidden meanings.

  1. What kinds of movies do you like best?

I would say I’m still a kid at heart, so I really enjoy kids' movies. Despite their seemingly simple and innocent nature, they often contain profound life lessons. I’m also really into drama and historical films. They allow me to deeply understand human emotions and re-live significant historical events, like the Vietnam War or World War II.

  1. Do you prefer foreign films or films made in your country?

Since my country doesn’t have a huge film industry, I’ve always been really into American films. Not to knock other film industries, but American films are incredibly entertaining and well-made. The evolution of film continues to amaze me. Also, watching films in English helps me learn new slang and expressions.

  1. How often do you watch films?

I am quite a busy bee, but I manage to watch about one or two films a week at home. After a long day of studying, I love to snuggle up on the sofa with some blankets and a good film to unwind. I usually do this on Friday and Sunday evenings with my friends.

  1. How often do you go to the cinema to watch a movie?

Not too often, actually. The cinema prices in my country are quite high, so I usually opt to watch movies at home to save on costs. I think it's kind of a waste of money to see a movie in the cinema when you can enjoy it from the comfort of your living room. I only go to the cinema when a friend invites me, which is about four times a year.

  1. Do people in your country like to go to the cinema to watch a film?

Yes, they do. Many people enjoy going out with their families on weekends, and going to the cinema is a popular choice. Teenagers often use it as a way to get out of the house, and it’s also a common date option for many.

  1. What was the first film that you watched?

It’s hard to remember the exact first one, but I think it was "The Lion King." It was released in the early 90s when I was a child. It was my absolute favorite; I watched it repeatedly until my parents were quite fed up with it! I even built a "Pride Rock" out of rocks during visits to relatives with gardens.

  1. Do you like to watch movies alone or with your friends?

Both! I find it very relaxing to watch a film alone and even fall asleep to it. However, watching with friends is also enjoyable because they share my interest in films. We often discuss the film afterwards and enjoy inside jokes from quotes and scenes.

  1. Would you like to be in a movie?

Not at all! I have stage fright, so I would never have the guts to act. Additionally, I feel awkward when trying to act and have the memory of a goldfish, so memorizing lines would be a challenge. Acting is simply not my thing.
