Misfortune Never Comes Alone

Once, there lived a poor hawker in a village. Every day, he would go to the nearby bazar to sell his goods, struggling to make a living. His small income was barely enough to support his family, yet he worked tirelessly from morning till night. Each evening, he would return home, passing by a large banyan tree on his way.

One evening, after a long and exhausting day, he reached the banyan tree. It was already quite dark, and fatigue weighed heavily on him. Feeling extremely tired, he decided to sit down under the tree to rest for a while. As the cool breeze touched his face, he slowly drifted into sleep.

In his sleep, he had a wonderful dream—he saw himself becoming the premier of the country! He imagined people respecting and admiring him, treating him with great honor. He dreamt of traveling to different countries, meeting important people, and living a life full of luxury. His happiness in the dream knew no bounds, and he forgot all his struggles for a while.

Meanwhile, as he slept peacefully, his basket of goods lay beside him, completely unguarded. A thief, who happened to be passing by, noticed the basket and saw an easy opportunity to steal. Without making any noise, he quickly took away all the hawker’s goods and disappeared into the darkness.

After some time, the hawker woke up feeling refreshed, but his joy quickly turned into shock. He looked around and saw that his basket was missing. His heart sank. All his goods had been stolen! Panic and despair filled his mind, but he knew there was nothing he could do.

Disheartened and miserable, he slowly walked back home. But his troubles did not end there. As soon as he reached home, his wife scolded him harshly for his carelessness. She was furious that he had lost everything they depended on for survival.

The hawker sat down with a heavy heart and sighed deeply. He realized that misfortunes never come alone—one trouble often brings another. His sufferings only grew worse, and he regretted his mistake deeply.
