IELTS Speaking Part-1 Accommodation

What do you usually do in your house/flat/room?

I usually spend some me-time in my room. I study and enjoy my hobbies like reading, drawing, and dancing. Sometimes I invite one or two friends over to watch movies and chat.

Are the transport facilities to your home very good?

As I mentioned, my house is in a quiet neighborhood. After taking the bus, I need to walk about five more minutes to get home. I usually come home around 6 pm, so traffic isn’t too bad.

Do you usually spend time with your family?

We often spend quality time together, enjoying well-prepared meals made by my mother and talking while eating our favorite foods. It’s a precious time when we can momentarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

What does your family usually do together?

My family often gathers around the table for cozy meals, sharing stories and sometimes laughing at my father’s humorous tales. We’re also big on family game nights, where we huddle together to play cards or other favorite games.

Which room do you like most in your house? Why?

My favorite room is the kitchen because it overlooks the back garden and catches the afternoon sun, making it a warm and inviting space.

How is your apartment decorated?

I prefer a minimalist style, so the walls are all white, and the furniture is either white or black. There are very few ornaments or pictures, as I like to keep things simple and avoid clutter.

Is there anything about your house that you would like to change?

I would love it if our house were detached so that we could have windows on the wall we currently share with our neighbors.

Tell me something else about your house.

The previous owners converted the loft into an extra bedroom, which is the quietest room in the house and the best place to get some work done.

Are there many amenities?

Not really, as our house is on the edge of town. If you want to enjoy a nice meal, use a swimming pool, go shopping, or grab a drink, you need to drive about 30 minutes. That’s the biggest drawback, but if you’re organized and do your shopping when you’re in town, it’s not too bad.

Do you plan to live there for a long time?

I really like where I live, but it’s quite far from where I work in the city center. It takes around 45 minutes to drive there by motorbike, which can be uncomfortable during the hot and wet seasons, so we may consider moving closer to the center in a year or so.

What kind of housing/accommodation do you live in?

For the past 21 years, I’ve lived in a house with my family. When I move out and start living independently, I’d prefer to have my own house, as sharing a room or flat with strangers seems troublesome to me.

Do you live in a house or a flat?

I live in a private house with my parents. Although I’ve experienced living in a flat while studying abroad, it didn’t work out well, so I’m happy to be back in my house.

Who do you live with?

I live with my family. There are five of us, and we each have our own room, which is more comfortable as we need more privacy as we grow older. Our house is big enough for us but still feels warm and cozy—a place I call home.

How long have you lived there?

Although my family moved a lot during my childhood, I’ve lived in this house for almost 10 years. Compared to our previous houses, this one has been the best so far.

Do you plan to live there for a long time? (If you haven’t lived there long)

My parents would say yes, as moving in and out is too time-consuming. Cleaning and arranging everything again would be like torture to them. As for me, I’m thinking of moving out soon, and I hope to afford living in a flat or apartment.

What’s the difference between where you are living now and where you have lived in the past?

As I mentioned, my family moved several times when I was younger. The house we’ve been living in for about 10 years is the best so far. We all have separate rooms for privacy, yet we have a big dining room where we can spend evenings together, watching TV or having dinner.

Can you describe the place where you live?/Please describe the room you live in/What parts of your home do you like the most?

My humble four-floor house is located on a small and quiet street, making coming home feel like leaving all the outside craziness behind. There’s a big old tree beside my house. My room has violet walls, my favorite color. The air outside is fresh, so I usually open the window to let in the wind and sunshine, which helps cool my room without needing an air conditioner. Since I spend most of my time at home, my room means the world to me. It’s like a friend who is always there to share the ups and downs with me, day and night. So yeah, I would always miss my house and my room whenever I’m away.

Which room does your family spend most of the time in?

We spend most of our time together in the dining room. We’re a traditional family that watches the news and talks about our days while having dinner. We share endless stories and help each other through tough times. We try to keep family dinners as a daily routine because, for us, it’s a key to family bonding.
