Questions and Answers
PART 1: Friends
How often do you go out with friends? Why/Why not?
I go out with friends quite often, usually on weekends. We enjoy trying new restaurants or going to the movies together. Spending time with friends is important to me because it helps us bond and create fun memories.
Tell me about your best friend at school.
My best friend at school is Sara. She is always supportive and has a great sense of humor. We share similar interests, like reading and playing sports, which makes our friendship even stronger. We often study together and help each other with our schoolwork.
How friendly are you with your neighbours? Why/Why not?
I’m fairly friendly with my neighbors. We greet each other when we see one another and occasionally have small talks. I believe it’s important to have a good relationship with neighbors, as it creates a sense of community and safety.
Which is more important to you, friends or family? Why?
Family is more important to me because they have been there for me through thick and thin. While friends are important for socializing and support, family provides unconditional love and guidance.
PART II: Describe a Writer You Would Like to Meet
I would love to meet J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series. I know that she is a British author who wrote a series of fantasy novels that have become incredibly popular worldwide. Her books have inspired millions of children and adults alike.
I would like to find out more about her writing process and how she developed the characters and world of Harry Potter. I’m also curious about the challenges she faced before her success and how she overcame them.
Meeting J.K. Rowling would be amazing because her work has had such a profound impact on my life. Her stories encourage imagination and creativity, and I would love to discuss how she crafts such compelling narratives.
PART III: Discussion Topics
Reading and Children
What kinds of book are most popular with children in your country? Why do you think that is?
In my country, adventure and fantasy books are most popular among children. I think this is because these genres spark imagination and transport them to different worlds, making reading exciting and engaging.
Why do you think some children do not read books very often?
Some children may not read often due to distractions like video games or television. Additionally, if they find reading difficult or boring, they might prefer other activities. It’s also possible that they lack access to interesting books.
How do you think children can be encouraged to read more?
To encourage children to read more, parents and teachers can introduce them to exciting and age-appropriate books. Organizing reading challenges or book clubs can also make reading more fun and social, which might motivate them to read regularly.
Reading for Different Purposes
Are there any occasions when reading at speed is a useful skill to have? What are they?
Yes, reading at speed is useful during exams or when going through a lot of information quickly, such as reports or articles. It helps in grasping the main ideas without getting bogged down by every detail.
Are there any jobs where people need to read a lot? What are they?
Yes, jobs like researchers, lawyers, and teachers often require extensive reading. Researchers need to read academic papers, lawyers must review legal documents, and teachers read various materials to prepare their lessons.
Do you think that reading novels is more interesting than reading factual books? Why is that?
I think it depends on personal preference. Reading novels can be more interesting for those who enjoy storytelling and character development, while factual books provide valuable information and knowledge. Both have their unique appeal and can be enjoyable in different ways.
