The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse

Once upon a time a town mouse came to visit his cousin cum friend, a country mouse. The country mouse did everything to entertain and please his cousin coning from the town but his cousin the Town house was clearly not satisfied. However he invited his cousin, the country mouse to the town. Two of them immediately set off for the town. On the way the proud town mouse said to his cousin, "I cannot understand, cousin, how you can put up with such poor food that you offered me. But I must thank you after all, because you have given me an opportunity to show you how to live. I am sure when you have been in town a week, you will wonder how you cold ever have stood a country life."

The poor country mouse was really sad at heart. The words of his cousin pierced through his heart. But he had hardly any answer to what he had pointed out. After all, he failed to offer to his town friend enough of the kind of food befitting for a visiting guest. So in a feeble voice he said, " I am sorry cousin. I am sure you understand the difference in terms of facilities and amenities of life between a town life and a country life. But I think you must have appreciated one thing. You see, I have taken you everywhere you wanted to with nobody to disturb us. This some how compensates the lack of food facilities in our country life."

"No," said the town mouse, "what you are saying is not at all convincing. But never mind, after all you are my cousin. I cannot blame you that much for the inadequate amenities you live in. I just want to show you how I live."

However, the two mice arrived at the town mouse's residence late at night. The town mouse took his cousin straight into the grand dining room. There they found the remains of a fine feast and soon the two mice began eating up jellies and cakes and all that was nice. Suddenly they heard growling and barking.

"What is that?" said the country mouse. "It is only the dog of the house, " answered the other. "Only" said the country mouse, "I do not like that music at my dinner!" Just at that moment the door flew open; in came two huge mastiffs; and the two mice had to scamper down and run off. "Good-bye, cousin," said the country mouse. "What! going so soon?" said the town mouse. "Yes," the country mouse replied, "I have already seen and experienced what an awful life you lead. You have no freedom here. Good food cannot be a compensation for freedom," continued the country mouse. "Please remember," he said to his cousin who turned up his long nose at him while visiting his house," Better beans and bacon in peace than cakes and jellies in fear."

The country mouse, now frightened and exhausted, said to his cousin, "Thank you for your hospitality, but this kind of life is not for me. I would rather eat simple food in peace than enjoy a feast in constant fear."

With that, the country mouse returned to his quiet countryside, happy to live a simple life.

একবার, একটি গ্রাম্য ইঁদুর তার শহরের ইঁদুর কাজিনকে তার বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ জানালো। গ্রাম্য ইঁদুর একটি ছোট গর্তে বাস করত, যা ছিল সাধারণ, কিন্তু প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যে ভরপুর। শহরের ইঁদুর এসে দেখে গ্রাম্য ইঁদুর তাকে শস্য, বাদাম, এবং শেকড় দিয়ে আপ্যায়ন করছে।
