Voice Change Interrogative Sentence

Interrogative Sentence

am, is, are, was, were, has, have, had

Active Voice

Passive Voice

Auxiliary verb +S + verb+ object+ question mark

Auxiliary verb +S +be/being/been+ V3 + by+ object+ question mark.

Examples:

Is he reading a book?

Is a book being read by him?

Will Jamal help me?

Will/Shall I be helped by Jamal?

Has he eaten the mangoes?

Have the mangoes been eaten by him?

Was Suzan writing homework?

Was homework being written by Suzan?

Was Simran learning English?

Was English being learnt by Simran?

Was Sumi playing cricket?

Was cricket being played by Sumi?

Were they solving the problems?

Were the problems being solved by them?

 

Note : be is used in the simple future, being is used in all the continuous tenses and been is used in all the perfect tenses.

 

do/does

Interrogative sentence beginning with "do/does".

Active Voice

Passive Voice

Do/does + subject + verb + object+?

Am/is/are + subject + V3 + by + agent+?

Examples:

Does Shubham write homework?

Is homework written by Shubham?

Does Simran learn English?

Is English learnt by Simran?

Does Sachin play cricket?

Is cricket played by Sachin?

Does he help me?

Am I helped by him?

 

N. B. am is used before I, is is used before he/she/it/any subject of third person singular number and are is used before we, you, they and all other plural subjects.

 

Did

Interrogative sentence beginning with 'did'.

 

Active Voice

Passive Voice

Did + subject + verb + object +?

Was/were + subject + V3 + by + agent+ ?

Examples:

Did they play football?

Was football played by them?

Did you do the work?

Was the work done by you?

Did she buy the mangoes?

Were the mangoes bought by her?

Did Hary take the decision?

Was the decision taken by Hary?

 

N.B. Was is used before any singular subject and were is used before any plural subject.

Modal + subject + be + V-3 + by + agent+?

Examples:

Wh’ questions

Questions starting with when, where, how, why

Active Voice
