A Failure Became a Blessing for Urmi

Urmi was an HSC examinee. After completing her HSC Exam, she went to Dhaka to take admission test in Dhaka University. But she did not get chance in the university. Being frustrated and heartbroken, she returned home to her village. Her parents were also very sad to see their beloved daughter's failure, as they knew how much she had dreamt of studying at such a prestigious institution.

For a few weeks, Urmi felt like her world had ended. However, she was not so weak-hearted that she would surrender to a single failure and give up her lifelong hope of becoming a university teacher. She reminded herself that failure is the pillar of success. She spent her afternoons reading the life stories of great personalities who had faced repeated obstacles before reaching their goals. This revitalized her spirit. Instead of crying, she sat down and identified the specific reasons why she had failed the first time.

Urmi restarted her studies with a new level of devotion. She studied more seriously, often staying up late into the night. Gradually, her confidence grew stronger. The following year, she reappeared for the admission test. This time, her hard work paid off, and she was admitted into the English Language and Literature department at Dhaka University. Her parents were overjoyed to hear the news.

During her time at the university, Urmi never lost her focus. She carried on her studies with great determination, eventually securing a CGPA of 3.90 in her Honours and a 3.94 in her Master's level. Because of her brilliant academic record, she won a scholarship to study at Harvard University in the USA. She moved there, successfully completed her PhD, and proved her excellence on a global stage.

Today, Urmi is a professor at Harvard University. Sometimes, when she looks back at her past, she thinks about that initial failure at the Dhaka University admission test. She realizes that if she had succeeded then, she might have settled for less. That failure was the very thing that pushed her to work harder and achieve something much bigger.

Moral: Failure is not the end; it is a stepping stone to a greater success.

উর্মি একজন এইচএসসি পরীক্ষার্থী ছিল। এইচএসসি পরীক্ষা শেষ করার পর সে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তি পরীক্ষা দেওয়ার জন্য ঢাকা গিয়েছিল। কিন্তু সে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তির সুযোগ পেল না। হতাশ এবং অত্যন্ত মন খারাপ করে সে তার গ্রামে ফিরে এল। তার প্রিয় মেয়ের এই ব্যর্থতা দেখে তার বাবা-মাও খুব দুঃখ পেয়েছিলেন, কারণ তারা জানতেন সে এই স্বনামধন্য প্রতিষ্ঠানে পড়ার জন্য কতটা স্বপ্ন দেখেছিল।

কয়েক সপ্তাহ উর্মির মনে হয়েছিল তার পৃথিবী বুঝি থমকে গেছে। তবে সে এতটাও দুর্বল চিত্তের ছিল না যে একটি ব্যর্থতার কাছে হার মেনে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শিক্ষক হওয়ার আজীবনের স্বপ্ন ছেড়ে দেবে। সে নিজেকে মনে করিয়ে দিল যে ব্যর্থতাই সাফল্যের স্তম্ভ। সে বিকেলে সেই সব মহান ব্যক্তিদের জীবনী পড়ত যারা তাদের লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছানোর আগে বারবার বাধার সম্মুখীন হয়েছিলেন। এটি তার মনে নতুন প্রাণের সঞ্চার করল। কান্নাকাটি করার বদলে সে বসে পড়ল এবং কেন প্রথমবার সে ব্যর্থ হয়েছিল তার নির্দিষ্ট কারণগুলো খুঁজে বের করল।

উর্মি এক নতুন নিষ্ঠার সাথে পুনরায় পড়াশোনা শুরু করল। সে আরও গুরুত্ব সহকারে পড়তে লাগল এবং প্রায়ই রাত জেগে পড়াশোনা করত। ধীরে ধীরে তার আত্মবিশ্বাস বাড়তে লাগল। পরের বছর সে আবারও ভর্তি পরীক্ষায় অংশগ্রহণ করল। এবার তার কঠোর পরিশ্রম সার্থক হলো এবং সে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ইংরেজি ভাষা ও সাহিত্য বিভাগে ভর্তির সুযোগ পেল। এই খবর শুনে তার বাবা-মা অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত হলেন।

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ার সময় উর্মি কখনো লক্ষ্যচ্যুত হয়নি। সে দৃঢ় সংকল্প নিয়ে পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে গেল এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত তার সম্মান (Honours) পরীক্ষায় ৩.৯০ এবং স্নাতকোত্তর (Masters) পরীক্ষায় ৩.৯৪ সিজিপিএ (CGPA) অর্জন করল। তার এই অসামান্য ফলাফলের কারণে সে আমেরিকার হার্ভার্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ার জন্য একটি বৃত্তি লাভ করল। সে সেখানে চলে গেল, সফলভাবে পিএইচডি (PhD) সম্পন্ন করল এবং বিশ্বমঞ্চে নিজের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব প্রমাণ করল।

আজ উর্মি সেই হার্ভার্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একজন অধ্যাপক। মাঝেমধ্যে যখন সে তার অতীতের দিকে ফিরে তাকায়, তখন সে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সেই প্রথম ভর্তি পরীক্ষার ব্যর্থতার কথা ভাবে। সে বুঝতে পারে যে সে যদি তখন সফল হতো, তবে হয়তো সে সাধারণ কিছুতেই সন্তুষ্ট থাকত। সেই ব্যর্থতাই তাকে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করতে এবং আরও বড় কিছু অর্জন করতে বাধ্য করেছিল।

মূলকথা: ব্যর্থতাই শেষ কথা নয়; এটি বড় কোনো সাফল্যের সোপান মাত্র।

An Intelligent Tortoise

One day, a thirsty tiger was drinking water from a river when he noticed a slow-moving tortoise nearby. The tiger was feeling hungry, so with a quick jump, he caught the tortoise in his strong paws.

The tiger tried to crush the tortoise’s hard shell with his sharp teeth, but no matter how hard he bit, the shell did not break. He tried again and again, but the result was the same—the shell remained unbreakable. Frustrated, the tiger growled, "Your shell is too strong! But I know how to get rid of you! I will throw you into the fire!" The tortoise felt afraid, but he was also clever. Without showing his fear, he calmly said, "Oh, that's no problem, Sir! Fire is my friend. It keeps me warm and safe."

The foolish tiger did not realize that the tortoise was tricking him. He asked again, "So, you are not afraid of fire?" The tortoise replied, "Not at all! Fire loves me, and I love fire." Hearing this, the tiger became angry. He wanted to punish the tortoise in a way that would make him suffer. He thought for a moment and then said, "Then I will throw you into the river instead!"

Hearing this, the tortoise felt very happy, but he did not show it. Instead, he pretended to be terrified and cried out, "Oh no! Please don’t throw me into the water! I will surely drown and die!" The foolish tiger laughed loudly, thinking he had finally found a way to get rid of the tortoise. Without another thought, he threw the tortoise into the river.

As soon as the tortoise hit the water, he happily swam away. The tiger watched in shock, realizing too late that he had been tricked. This story teaches us that intelligence is more powerful than strength. A clever mind can overcome any danger, no matter how powerful the enemy is.

একটি বুদ্ধিমান কচ্ছপ

একদিন একটি বাঘ নদী থেকে জল খাচ্ছিল। সে দেখতে পেল একটি কচ্ছপ পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছে। লাফ দিয়ে সে কচ্ছপটিকে ধরে ফেলল। কচ্ছপের খোলসটি খুব কঠিন ছিল। বাঘটি তার যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করেছিল এটি ভাঙতে। কিন্তু সে ব্যর্থ হয়েছিল। সে বারবার চেষ্টা করেছিল কিন্তু ফলাফল একই রকম ছিল।

বাঘটি কচ্ছপকে বলল যে তার খোলসটি ভাঙা তার পক্ষে খুব কঠিন। সে কচ্ছপকে আরও বলল যে সে কচ্ছপটিকে আগুনে ফেলে দেবে। কচ্ছপ ভয় পেয়ে গেল। কিন্তু সে তা প্রকাশ করল না। সে বাঘকে বলল, "কোন সমস্যা নেই, স্যার, আগুন আমার ভালো বন্ধু। সে আমাকে খুব পছন্দ করে।" বাঘটি কচ্ছপের কৌশল বুঝতে পারল না। তাই, সে কচ্ছপকে আবার জিজ্ঞাসা করল যে সে আগুনকে ভয় পায় কিনা। কচ্ছপ তাকে একই কথা বলল। এতে বাঘটি খুব রেগে গেল।

তারপর বাঘটি বলল যে সে এটিকে জলে ফেলে দেবে। কচ্ছপটি খুব খুশি হল কিন্তু প্রকাশ করল না। সে দুঃখে চিৎকার করে ভান করল যে সে জলকে ভয় পায়। সে বললো যে সে পানিতে মারা যাবে। সে বাঘকে অনুরোধ করলো যেন তাকে পানিতে ফেলে না দেয়। কিন্তু বোকা বাঘটি কচ্ছপের কথা শুনে হেসে উঠলো। সে কচ্ছপটিকে নদীতে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিল। এভাবে কচ্ছপটি নিষ্ঠুর বাঘের হাত থেকে পালাতে এবং তার জীবন বাঁচাতে সফল হলো।
