✅ How to Change Positive Degree into Comparative Degree
🔹 Rule 1: When the Sentence Begins with “No other”
Structure:Subject (from the end of positive sentence) + verb + comparative form of the adjective + than any other + noun group (from the beginning of the positive sentence)
Explanation:Use this when the positive sentence starts with “No other”, meaning the subject is the best or top compared to all others.
✅ Examples:
Positive: No other boy in the class is as good as he.
Comparative: He is better than any other boy in the class.
Positive: No other city in Bangladesh is as big as Dhaka.
Comparative: Dhaka is bigger than any other city in Bangladesh.
Positive: No other girl in the school is as pretty as Samia.
Comparative: Samia is prettier than any other girl in the school.
Positive: No other student in the group is as intelligent as Rafi.
Comparative: Rafi is more intelligent than any other student in the group.
🔹 Rule 2: When the Sentence Begins with “Very Few”
Structure:Subject + verb + comparative form of the adjective +than most other / than many other / than few other + plural noun
Explanation:Use this when the positive sentence starts with “Very few”, meaning the subject is among the top, but not the single best.
✅ Examples:
Positive: Very few metals are as costly as gold.
Comparative: Gold is costlier than most other metals.
Positive: Very few boys in the class are as active as Arif.
Comparative: Arif is more active than most other boys in the class.
Positive: Very few countries are as beautiful as Switzerland.
Comparative: Switzerland is more beautiful than most other countries.
Positive: Very few mountains are as high as Everest.
Comparative: Everest is higher than most other mountains.
🔹 Rule 3: When the Sentence Has “as...as” Without “No Other” or “Very Few”
Structure:Use “not taller than”, “no less intelligent than”, etc., depending on the context.
Positive: A is as [adjective] as BComparative: B is not [comparative form] than A
✅ Examples:
Positive: He is as tall as his brother.
Comparative: His brother is not taller than he.
Positive: This book is as interesting as that one.
Comparative: That book is not more interesting than this one.
Positive: Sara is as hardworking as her colleague.
Comparative: Her colleague is not more hardworking than Sara.
Positive: This problem is as difficult as the previous one.
Comparative: The previous problem is not more difficult than this one.
POSITIVE TO COMPARATIVE
Turn the following Sentences into comparative.
1. Dishonour is not as preferable as death.
2. No other person is as wealthy as he.
3. No other person is as fit as he to do this job.
