Ans.     Tit For Tat

An English poet was staying in Italy for the benefit of his health. During his stay he received an unpaid letter from one of his friends in England. The poet had to pay double postage to take delivery of the letter. But it contained nothing but the sentence "I am well".

The poet was greatly irritated by the trivial news he received, especially considering he had to pay double postage for it. He found it rather amusing but decided it was time to teach his friend a valuable lesson. With this in mind, he devised a clever plan.

He obtained a hefty stone and carefully packaged it in an elegant box. Inside, he wrapped the stone with a piece of paper containing some words. Then, he sent the box to his friend as an unpaid parcel, with the instruction "Carriage to be paid on delivery."

When the parcel arrived at his friend's doorstep, the friend assumed it must contain something valuable due to the hefty charge for carriage. Without hesitation, he gladly paid the fee, including the double postage. With eager anticipation, he opened the box, only to find an ordinary stone inside. His heart sank as he realized the deception.

Attached to the stone was a piece of paper with a message that read, "Learning that you are well, this heavy stone has rolled out from my heart." It dawned on the friend that this was nothing but a form of revenge, a classic case of "tit for tat."

Through this clever prank, the poet effectively conveyed his message to his friend, teaching him the consequence of sending trivial news at a high cost. It served as a reminder that actions have consequences, and sometimes, a taste of one's own medicine is the most effective lesson of all.
