Once, there was a selfish giant who had a large and beautiful garden. The garden was full of soft green grass. Here and there all over the grass stood many colourful flowers like stars. 

The Selfish Giant

Once, there was a selfish giant who had a large and beautiful garden. The garden was full of soft green grass. Here and there all over the grass stood many colourful flowers like stars. Every afternoon, as they were coming from school, the children used to go and play in the Giant's garden. It was a lovely garden with twelve peach trees that broke into delicate blossoms of pink and pearl in the springtime.

However, the Giant was very selfish. He had been away for seven years visiting his friend, the Cornish Ogre. When he arrived back at his castle, he saw the children playing in his garden. "What are you doing here?" he shouted in a very gruff voice, and the children ran away in fear. He immediately built a high wall all round the garden and put up a notice board that said: "TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED."

The poor children now had nowhere to play. They tried to play on the road, but the road was very dusty and full of hard stones, and they did not like it. They used to wander round the high wall when their lessons were over and talk about the beautiful garden inside.

Then the Spring came, and all over the country there were little blossoms and little birds. Only in the garden of the Selfish Giant, it was still Winter. The birds did not care to sing in it as there were no children, and the trees forgot to blossom. The only people who were pleased were the Snow and the Frost. "Spring has forgotten this garden," they cried, "so we will live here all the year round." The Snow covered up the grass with her great white cloak, and the Frost painted all the trees silver.

The Giant sat at his window and looked out at his cold, white garden. "I cannot understand why the Spring is so late in coming," he said to himself. But the Spring never came, nor the Summer. One morning, the Giant was lying awake in bed when he heard some lovely music. It was a little linnet bird singing outside his window. It sounded so sweet that he thought it must be the King’s musicians passing by.

He looked out of the window and saw a most wonderful sight. Through a little hole in the wall, the children had crept in, and they were sitting in the branches of the trees. In every tree there was a little child. And the trees were so glad to have the children back again that they had covered themselves with blossoms. Only in one corner it was still Winter. In it stood a tiny boy who was too small to reach the branches.

The Giant’s heart melted. "How selfish I have been!" he said. He crept downstairs and went out into the garden. He took the little boy gently in his hand and put him up into the tree. The tree broke at once into blossom. The Giant then took a great axe and knocked down the wall. From that day on, the garden became the children's playground, and the Giant played with them, finally finding true happiness.

Moral: Selfishness brings loneliness, but sharing brings happiness.

A Selfish Giant

Once upon a time, there was a giant who have a beautiful garden. The grass was soft and green, and colorful flowers grow all around. Birds sang sweet song, and every day, children from school come to play in the garden. but There laughter made the garden feel even more happy.

One day, the giant come home after visiting a friend and saw the children playing in his garden. He got angry because he didn’t want to share his garden. He shouted at the children to leave and built a big wall around the garden, putting up a sign that said that no one allow to come in.

The children are very sad and stopped coming to the garden. Without them, everything changed. The grass turned brown, the flowers stopped growing, and the birds go away. The garden became boring and quiet, but the giant didn’t understand why.

Then one day, the giant heard birds singing again and see flowers blooming. He looked outside and saw the children playing in the garden again. The garden was beautiful once more. The giant noticed a little boy struggling to climb a tree, so giant he going out and helped him up. At that moment, the giant feel a joy he had never feel before.

The giant understood that he have been selfish. The garden lost its beauty because he didn’t share it with the children. So, he broke down the wall and get the children come back to play. They were very happy and forgive him. From that day, the giant and the children played together, and the garden stayed beautiful forever.
