Read the passage carefully and answer the questions no. 1, 2 and 3: Humans can neither change the sun's radiation nor the earth's orbit around the sun. But they can control the increase in the amount of greenhouse gases and its effect on the atmosphere. Only during the last hundred years the carbon dioxide concentration has been raised alarmingly in the atmosphere and we humans can be held responsible for this. The main cause of the increase in carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere is the burning of fossil fuels. Since the end of the 19th century, industrial activities increased rapidly giving rise to many factories. These factories required energy, which was produced through the combustion of coal. Besides coal, other resources of energy such as mineral oil and natural gas were also burned to heat our houses, run cars and airplanes or to produce electricity. Nowadays, about 85 million barrels of crude oil are burned daily. Every time a fossil raw material is burned, it releases carbon dioxide into the air. Therefore, it is clear that more and more greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are being generated worldwide by humans. Moreover, we are also strengthening the greenhouse effect by deforestation, which means cutting down trees. Every year enormous areas of forests are destroyed by people to obtain wood and to clear regions of mining and to create pasture. This loss of the forest causes dual problems. Trees that are burned up release large volumes of carbon dioxide gas into the air. On the other hand, as forests absorb a lot of carbon dioxide from the air and deliver oxygen instead, we also destroy an important storehouse of carbon dioxide when we clear forests.

As the climbers were going up, they set up camps at different places. They left some of their men and supplies in those camps. The highest camp was set up at 27,000 feet. Only Hillary and Tenzing reached the height on March 25. But the top was still 2,000 feet away. They went up and up. After two months of difficult and dangerous climbing, they succeeded in reaching the top on May 10. They must have felt excited when they stood there. They have gone down in history as the conquerors of the highest mountain in the world. They were given hearty welcome in 1954. Hillary went to Britain with Tenzing in 1955. They were given Tribute in 1956. In 1956, they were recorded in the Guinness Book. In 1958, both of them were given honour of world heroes.

We humans are highly responsible for the rapid increase of greenhouse gases because of our daily activities. We are continuously building many new factories, running millions of motor vehicles, and burning huge amounts of fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. All of these human activities produce massive amounts of carbon dioxide which directly pollutes our atmosphere.

(b) What is the main cause of the increase in carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere? Describe in brief.

The main cause of the alarming increase in carbon dioxide levels is the excessive burning of fossil fuels. Since the 19th century, industrial activities have grown very fast around the world. To run these huge factories, generate electricity, and drive millions of cars, we burn enormous amounts of coal, oil, and gas, which constantly releases carbon dioxide into the air.

(c) How much crude oil is burned daily according to the text and what is its effect on the environment?

According to the text, about 85 million barrels of crude oil are burned every single day all over the world. The effect of this huge burning is very dangerous for our environment. Every time this crude oil is burned, it immediately releases a massive volume of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the air, which makes the earth dangerously hot.

(d) Why trees are called an "important storehouse of carbon dioxide"?

Trees are called an "important storehouse of carbon dioxide" because they naturally absorb this harmful gas from the atmosphere to make their food. By taking in the bad carbon dioxide and delivering fresh, clean oxygen for us to breathe, forests act like a huge, natural storage house that keeps the environment cool and perfectly balanced.

(e) What do you think we should do to keep the atmosphere normal for our living?

To keep the atmosphere normal and safe for our living, we must strictly stop deforestation right now. We must plant more and more trees every day to create new forests. At the same time, we must reduce the unnecessary burning of fossil fuels like coal and crude oil by finding alternative, clean energy sources like solar power.

The poet stopped his horse by the deep woods because the natural beauty of the forest was extremely magical and attractive. Even though it was dark, the peaceful silence and the soft, white falling snow caught his attention and made him want to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Title: A Terrible Fire and a Brave Rescue

Last Monday I went to bed at about 11 p.m and slept a sound sleep. Suddenly I woke up at about 2 a.m when I heard a hue and cry at a little distance. I got up from bed and saw that a cottage was burning.

The dark night sky was completely filled with thick, black smoke and bright red flames. I quickly realized that it was the small cottage of our poor neighbor, Rahim uncle. Without wasting a single second, I rushed out of my house and ran towards the burning cottage as fast as I could. When I reached there, I saw many villagers running here and there in great panic. They were throwing buckets of water and sand on the angry fire, but the flames were growing bigger and bigger.

Suddenly, I heard the heartbreaking cry of a little child coming from inside the burning house. Rahim uncle's five-year-old daughter, Mina, was trapped inside a room! The parents were crying loudly, but the fire was too hot for anyone to enter. I gathered all my courage, wrapped a thick, wet blanket around my body, and bravely jumped through the broken front door. The room was extremely hot and filled with blinding smoke, making it very hard to breathe.

I crawled on the floor and finally found little Mina hiding under a wooden bed, crying in deep fear. I quickly grabbed her in my arms, covered her completely with the wet blanket, and rushed out through the flames safely. As soon as I came outside, the parents hugged their child with tears of joy and blessed me from the bottom of their hearts. Soon after, the village fire brigade arrived and completely stopped the terrible fire. Though the cottage was destroyed, I felt very happy and proud because I could save a precious human life that night.

A dialogue between myself and my friend Abid about the importance of learning computer:

Myself: Hello Abid! How are you doing today? What are you reading so deeply?

Abid: Hi my friend! I am fine. I am just reading an article about modern technology. But I feel a bit worried because I have very little knowledge about how to operate a computer properly.

Myself: Oh, I see. My dear friend, in today's modern world, having computer knowledge is absolutely essential. The use of computers is seen everywhere in our daily life now.

Abid: I know it is important, but is it really necessary for young students like us right now? We mainly need to focus on our school books.

Myself: Yes, it is very necessary for students! A computer is a great magical tool for education. You can search the internet for your school projects, read thousands of free e-books, and even take online classes from great teachers.

Abid: That sounds very helpful for my studies. But what about our future career? Does it help to get a good job?

Myself: Absolutely! Nowadays, you cannot find a single good job without computer skills. All banks, hospitals, offices, and large businesses use computers to store data, communicate, and work quickly. If you don't know computer basics, you will fall far behind others.

Abid: I understand now. It seems that a person without computer knowledge is like an illiterate person in the modern age.
