10. Load-Shedding has become a part of our life. Write a paragraph on "Load Shedding". (Marks 10)

Load Shedding

Load shedding is the intentional suspension of electricity supply to a particular area. It is a common problem in our country, which occurs when the demand for electricity exceeds the production. There are many reasons for load shedding, such as the shortage of power plants, mismanagement, and the overuse of electricity. Load shedding causes great suffering to the people. It disrupts industrial production, hinders students' studies, and causes problems in hospitals. It also affects daily household chores. During load shedding, the whole area becomes dark at night, which gives rise to criminal activities. To solve this problem, the government should build more power plants and adopt efficient management. We should also be conscious of using electricity and avoid wastage. If we can produce more electricity and use it properly, we can get rid of this problem soon.

11. Suppose, you are Shamim/Shamima, a student of class ten in Mirzapur High School, Chattogram. Recently your father has been transferred to Dhaka. But you want to continue your study in this school. Now write an application to your Headmaster/ Headmistress for a seat in your school hostel. (Marks 10)

I have no relatives in Chattogram where I can reside. Therefore, I am badly in need of a seat in the school hostel to continue my studies uninterrupted.

12. Write a composition about "Population Problem of Bangladesh". (Marks 20)

Population Problem of Bangladesh

Bangladesh has a population of 16 crore. The growth rate of population is 1.02% while the density is 1,106 per square km. Bangladesh stands topmost in the world in population density. Population wise, Bangladesh stands 7th while area wise it is the 92nd. Bangladesh is a developing country. 20.5% of its people live below the poverty line while 10.5% below absolute poverty.

The rapid growth of population is the main cause of poverty in Bangladesh. Previously, the population growth rate is so high that no programmes of poverty reduction can cope with it to improve the situation. The population was growing at an alarming rate in Bangladesh where as the land is limited. So, the land is being divided and subdivided among the descendents. The children are growing into youths; they are marrying and building new houses to live with their individual families. This phenomenon is taking away the agricultural land from the parents. However, the rate is a little lower now.

The building of new houses in this way is reducing the total cultivable land. This eventually reduces the production of agricultural crops. So, on one hand, the population is growing, on the other hand, food production is decreasing. Owing to this situation, the rich are becoming poor and the poor poorer. The production of crops is being increased through using high yielding variety (HYV) of seeds but again this increased production cannot cater to the needs of the fast increasing mouths.

Our job opportunities are limited. No new industry is being set up, no new business is flourishing to create the employment opportunities for the new comers in the job markets. The number of unemployed people is gradually increasing. This situation is creating a negative contribution to the per capita income of the people of the country. As a result, the poverty situation is aggravating, and it is becoming worse. The standard of living of the people is going down.

The government has adopted Population Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) to reduce the poverty of the country. Besides, the NGOs and donor countries are also implementing poverty alleviation programmes through micro-credit finance and other ways. But all these robust programmes are being washed away by the powerful waves of rapid population growth. As a result, the poverty situation of the country is either remaining the same or deteriorating.
