The Headmaster

ABC High School

Sylhet.

Subject: Application for increasing the number of books in the school library.

Sir, We, the students of your school, beg most respectfully to draw your kind attention to the fact that our school library is not rich in books. The library is an essential part of our education, but the number of books available to us is very limited.

Our school library is a good place for studying, but it lacks many important reference books, storybooks, and books on science, history, and general knowledge. The books that are available are mostly old, outdated, and insufficient for the large number of students in our school. As a result, we cannot satisfy our thirst for knowledge and are unable to broaden our outlook beyond our textbooks. The lack of good books is hampering our studies and preventing us from developing a good reading habit.

We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to take necessary steps to increase the number of books in our school library and oblige thereby.

Yours most obediently,

The Students of ABC High School.

Answer to the Question No. 14

A Street Hawker

A street hawker is a person who sells various goods by moving from one street to another. He is a very common and familiar figure in the cities and towns of our country. A street hawker does not have a permanent shop. He usually carries his products in a basket on his head, on a hand-pushed cart, or sometimes just in his hands. He sells a wide variety of items, such as toys, balloons, ribbons, cheap cosmetics, utensils, and food items like 'chanachur', 'jhalmuri', and seasonal fruits. To attract customers, he shouts the names of his goods in a loud and often sing-song voice. He tries his best to persuade passers-by to buy his products. The life of a street hawker is very hard and full of struggles. He works from morning till late at night, in the scorching sun and in heavy rain, just to earn a small amount of money to support his family. Though he works very hard, he lives in poverty. Despite his hard life, a street hawker provides a useful service by bringing various necessary things to our doorsteps at a cheap price.

Answer to the Question No. 15

The Game I Like Most

Games and sports are essential for a healthy and active life. They provide us with recreation, keep our bodies fit, and teach us valuable life lessons. There are many kinds of outdoor and indoor games, but among all of them, the game I like most is cricket.

Cricket is an outdoor game played between two teams, with eleven players on each side. It is played on a large circular field with a rectangular pitch in the center. The game requires a bat, a ball, and three stumps at each end of the pitch. One team bats to score runs, while the other team bowls and fields to get the batsmen out. The team that scores more runs wins the match. Cricket is a game of skill, patience, and strategy.

There are many reasons why I like cricket so much. It is a very exciting and thrilling game. The match is full of suspense, and the winner is often decided in the very last moments, which makes it incredibly enjoyable to watch and play. I am a great fan of players like Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza. Their performance and dedication inspire me a lot. Every afternoon, I play cricket with my friends in our school playground. Playing the game makes me feel energetic and refreshed.

Cricket is not just a game; it is a passion for me. It has taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and how to handle both victory and defeat with grace. In Bangladesh, cricket is the most popular sport. It unites the entire nation. Whenever our national team plays, everyone supports them with great enthusiasm.

For all these reasons, cricket is more than just a game to me. It is a source of immense joy, inspiration, and national pride.
