The Indomitable Strength of Shrabandhara

Shrabandhara, a green village, is situated on the bank of the River Chitra. People are very nice, as the village is. Most of them are farmers. These farmers lived simple, peaceful lives, spending their days tilling the soil and their evenings sharing stories under the large banyan trees. They relied on the Chitra for everything, but they also respected its power.

One year, nature showed its harsh side. The sky turned grey and stayed that way for weeks, pouring down endless rain. Due to the heavy rainfall, the River Chitra overflowed her banks, inundating the fields and homes of the villagers. The floodwater surged through the village with a terrifying roar, destroying the standing crops and washing away the livestock that the villagers depended on for their survival. The farmers stood on higher ground, devastated as they watched their hard work and livelihoods being swept away by the current. It felt as if their entire world was disappearing under the water.

But in their hearts, they carried a resilience that no flood could drown. They did not spend much time in despair. As soon as the rain subsided and the floodwater began to recede, the people of Shrabandhara came together. They were united by their shared misfortune and a fierce determination to rebuild their beloved home.

They worked tirelessly to clear the thick mud and debris that the river had left behind. Men, women, and even children joined in to repair the damaged homes and replant the ruined fields. Neighbors helped each other without a second thought, sharing their last bits of food and clothing with those who had lost everything.

With time, the village began to recover, and something wonderful happened. The fertile silt deposited by the flood had enriched the soil, making it more productive than ever before. This led to an unexpectedly bountiful harvest the following year. The villagers' perseverance paid off, and Shrabandhara once again flourished, greener and more beautiful than before. The flood had tested the spirit of the village, but it also revealed the unyielding strength of its people. Together, they proved that even in the face of disaster, unity and resilience could bring a community back to life.

শ্রাবণধারা, একটি সবুজ গ্রাম, চিত্রা নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত। গ্রামের মতো এখানকার মানুষগুলোও খুব চমৎকার। তাদের অধিকাংশই কৃষক। এই কৃষকেরা খুব সাধারণ ও শান্তিপূর্ণ জীবন যাপন করতেন। তারা সারাদিন জমিতে চাষাবাদ করতেন এবং সন্ধ্যায় বড় বটগাছের নিচে বসে গল্পগুজব করে সময় কাটাতেন। তারা সবকিছুর জন্য চিত্রা নদীর ওপর নির্ভর করতেন, তবে তারা এর ক্ষমতাকেও শ্রদ্ধা করতেন।

এক বছর প্রকৃতি তার রুদ্রমূর্তি ধারণ করল। আকাশ ধূসর হয়ে গেল এবং টানা কয়েক সপ্তাহ ধরে প্রবল বৃষ্টিপাত হতে থাকল। এই ভারী বৃষ্টির কারণে চিত্রা নদী তার পাড় উপচে গ্রামবাসীর মাঠ ও ঘরবাড়ি প্লাবিত করে দিল। বন্যার পানি ভয়ানক গর্জনে গ্রামের ভেতর দিয়ে বয়ে গেল, যা ফসল ধ্বংস করল এবং কৃষকদের বেঁচে থাকার অবলম্বন গবাদিপশুগুলোকে ভাসিয়ে নিয়ে গেল। কৃষকেরা উঁচু জায়গায় দাঁড়িয়ে বড় অসহায়ভাবে দেখলেন কীভাবে তাদের কঠোর পরিশ্রম আর জীবন-জীবিকা পানির স্রোতে ভেসে যাচ্ছে। মনে হচ্ছিল তাদের পুরো পৃথিবীটাই পানির নিচে হারিয়ে যাচ্ছে।

কিন্তু তাদের হৃদয়ে এমন এক অদম্য শক্তি ছিল যা কোনো বন্যা ডুবিয়ে দিতে পারে না। তারা হতাশায় বেশিক্ষণ ডুবে থাকলেন না। যখনই বৃষ্টি কমতে শুরু করল এবং বন্যার পানি নামতে শুরু করল, শ্রাবণধারার মানুষজন সবাই একত্রিত হলেন। তারা তাদের সাধারণ দুর্ভাগ্য এবং নিজেদের ঘরবাড়ি আবার গড়ে তোলার এক প্রবল ইচ্ছাশক্তি দ্বারা ঐক্যবদ্ধ হলেন।

নদী যে কাদা আর ধ্বংসাবশেষ রেখে গিয়েছিল, তা পরিষ্কার করতে তারা অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম করতে লাগলেন। পুরুষ, নারী এমনকি শিশুরাও ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত ঘরবাড়ি মেরামত এবং নষ্ট হয়ে যাওয়া মাঠে নতুন করে ফসল লাগাতে যোগ দিল। প্রতিবেশীরা কোনো দ্বিধা ছাড়াই একে অপরকে সাহায্য করতে লাগলেন এবং যাদের সবকিছু হারিয়ে গেছে তাদের সাথে নিজেদের সামান্য খাবার ও পোশাক ভাগ করে নিলেন।

সময়ের সাথে সাথে গ্রামটি আবার স্বাভাবিক হতে শুরু করল এবং এক চমৎকার ব্যাপার ঘটল। বন্যার পানি যে উর্বর পলিমাটি ফেলে গিয়েছিল তা মাটিকে আগের চেয়েও বেশি উর্বর করে তুলল। এর ফলে পরের বছর অবিশ্বাস্য রকম প্রচুর ফলন হলো। গ্রামবাসীদের অধ্যবসায় সার্থক হলো এবং শ্রাবণধারা আগের চেয়েও বেশি সবুজ ও সুন্দর হয়ে আবার জেগে উঠল। বন্যা শ্রাবণধারার মানুষের মনোবল পরীক্ষা করেছিল, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত এটি তাদের অজেয় শক্তি ও একতাকেই প্রকাশ করল। সবাই মিলে তারা প্রমাণ করলেন যে, দুর্যোগের মুখেও ঐক্য এবং ঘুরে দাঁড়ানোর ক্ষমতা একটি সমাজকে পুনরায় জীবন ফিরিয়ে দিতে পারে।

গল্পের মূলকথা: একতা ও অদম্য ইচ্ছাশক্তি যেকোনো দুর্যোগকে জয় করতে পারে।

An Intelligent Tortoise

One day, a thirsty tiger was drinking water from a river when he noticed a slow-moving tortoise nearby. The tiger was feeling hungry, so with a quick jump, he caught the tortoise in his strong paws.

The tiger tried to crush the tortoise’s hard shell with his sharp teeth, but no matter how hard he bit, the shell did not break. He tried again and again, but the result was the same—the shell remained unbreakable. Frustrated, the tiger growled, "Your shell is too strong! But I know how to get rid of you! I will throw you into the fire!" The tortoise felt afraid, but he was also clever. Without showing his fear, he calmly said, "Oh, that's no problem, Sir! Fire is my friend. It keeps me warm and safe."

The foolish tiger did not realize that the tortoise was tricking him. He asked again, "So, you are not afraid of fire?" The tortoise replied, "Not at all! Fire loves me, and I love fire." Hearing this, the tiger became angry. He wanted to punish the tortoise in a way that would make him suffer. He thought for a moment and then said, "Then I will throw you into the river instead!"

Hearing this, the tortoise felt very happy, but he did not show it. Instead, he pretended to be terrified and cried out, "Oh no! Please don’t throw me into the water! I will surely drown and die!" The foolish tiger laughed loudly, thinking he had finally found a way to get rid of the tortoise. Without another thought, he threw the tortoise into the river.

As soon as the tortoise hit the water, he happily swam away. The tiger watched in shock, realizing too late that he had been tricked. This story teaches us that intelligence is more powerful than strength. A clever mind can overcome any danger, no matter how powerful the enemy is.

একদিন একটি বাঘ নদী থেকে জল খাচ্ছিল। সে দেখতে পেল একটি কচ্ছপ পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছে। লাফ দিয়ে সে কচ্ছপটিকে ধরে ফেলল। কচ্ছপের খোলসটি খুব কঠিন ছিল। বাঘটি তার যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করেছিল এটি ভাঙতে। কিন্তু সে ব্যর্থ হয়েছিল। সে বারবার চেষ্টা করেছিল কিন্তু ফলাফল একই রকম ছিল।

বাঘটি কচ্ছপকে বলল যে তার খোলসটি ভাঙা তার পক্ষে খুব কঠিন। সে কচ্ছপকে আরও বলল যে সে কচ্ছপটিকে আগুনে ফেলে দেবে। কচ্ছপ ভয় পেয়ে গেল। কিন্তু সে তা প্রকাশ করল না। সে বাঘকে বলল, "কোন সমস্যা নেই, স্যার, আগুন আমার ভালো বন্ধু। সে আমাকে খুব পছন্দ করে।" বাঘটি কচ্ছপের কৌশল বুঝতে পারল না। তাই, সে কচ্ছপকে আবার জিজ্ঞাসা করল যে সে আগুনকে ভয় পায় কিনা। কচ্ছপ তাকে একই কথা বলল। এতে বাঘটি খুব রেগে গেল।

তারপর বাঘটি বলল যে সে এটিকে জলে ফেলে দেবে। কচ্ছপটি খুব খুশি হল কিন্তু প্রকাশ করল না। সে দুঃখে চিৎকার করে ভান করল যে সে জলকে ভয় পায়। সে বললো যে সে পানিতে মারা যাবে। সে বাঘকে অনুরোধ করলো যেন তাকে পানিতে ফেলে না দেয়। কিন্তু বোকা বাঘটি কচ্ছপের কথা শুনে হেসে উঠলো। সে কচ্ছপটিকে নদীতে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিল। এভাবে কচ্ছপটি নিষ্ঠুর বাঘের হাত থেকে পালাতে এবং তার জীবন বাঁচাতে সফল হলো।
