Visiting a Historical Place

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka, March 9, 2022: Historical place means a place which bears testimony to history. Bangladesh is a land of historical importance. Everywhere there are places of historical interest. Visiting a historical place is truly interesting and exciting. Visits to such places have a great educative value too. Besides, it helps to remove the dullness of mind which occurs from the monotonous work. Mahasthangarh, a glorious chapter of old history, opened up before our eyes. Mahasthangarh was the site of Pundrangar. Pundranagar was the capital of the Mouryas, Guptas, Senas and Other Hindu Kings. The old city was about 2000 meters long and 1500 meters wide and was surrounded by a wall. Once it was a very flourishing city. Mahasthangarh stands on the western bank of the river Korotoa. There are some elevated places near Mahasthangarh. These place are known as ‘Vitas’, ‘Kundus’, ‘Ghous’ and ‘Dhaps’. One part of the dried river is known as the ghat of Khakabati. There is a museum at Mahasthangarh. Some images, dice, ornaments and posts excavated from Mahasthangarh have been kept in the museum. All the relics of the past make a permanent impression and tourists can learn a lot of things about our past civilization.

A visit to a place of historical interest seems to be an interesting and source of entertainment of mind. It will undoubtedly be a great pleasure for everyone to be at Mahasthangarh. At the same time the government should come forward to protect this restricted area from its further decay.

Educational Excursion to the Ancient Ruins of Somapura Mahavihara in Paharpur

Tanvir Hossain, Staff Reporter, Naogaon, October 15, 2026: To bridge the gap between theoretical textbook knowledge and practical historical awareness, the Humanities Department of Dhaka Residential Model College organized a comprehensive study tour to Paharpur yesterday. A delegation of eighty higher secondary students, accompanied by senior faculty members, explored the majestic ruins of Somapura Mahavihara, one of the most significant archaeological sites in South Asia and a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site.

The expedition commenced early in the morning. Upon reaching the site, the students were immediately captivated by the colossal quadrangular structure of the central Buddhist vihara, which dates back to the Pala Dynasty of the 8th century. Local archaeological guides provided an in-depth briefing on the architectural brilliance of the site, pointing out the intricate terracotta plaques that adorn the outer brick walls. These remarkable clay artworks beautifully depict the socio-cultural lifestyle, mythology, and wildlife of ancient Bengal.

Following the exploration of the main temple complex, the young researchers visited the adjacent site museum. They meticulously documented the preserved artifacts, including ancient coins, stone sculptures, and pottery fragments, which offered a tangible connection to a highly advanced bygone civilization.

The college principal noted that visiting such profound historical landmarks is absolutely essential for students, as it cultivates a deep sense of national pride and historical preservation. The enriching excursion concluded in the late afternoon, leaving the students deeply inspired by the glorious ancestral heritage of their motherland.

মূল মন্দির এলাকাটি ঘুরে দেখার পর তরুণ গবেষকরা পার্শ্ববর্তী জাদুঘরটি পরিদর্শন করে। তারা প্রাচীন মুদ্রা, পাথরের ভাস্কর্য এবং মৃৎপাত্রের টুকরোসহ সংরক্ষিত নিদর্শনগুলো নিখুঁতভাবে লিপিবদ্ধ করে, যা অত্যন্ত উন্নত এক অতীত সভ্যতার সাথে তাদের বাস্তব সংযোগ ঘটিয়েছিল।

Students Enjoy a Memorable Visit to the Historic Shat Gombuj Mosque

Local Correspondent, Bagerhat, November 10, 2026: A group of fifty students and five teachers from Khulna Zilla School recently made a very exciting trip to the famous Shat Gombuj Mosque in Bagerhat. This historical place, built by the great saint Khan Jahan Ali in the 15th century, is a wonderful example of ancient Islamic architecture in Bangladesh.

The school bus reached the mosque area at 10:00 a.m. As soon as the students entered the large compound, they were amazed by the massive brick building and its many domes. Though the name suggests sixty domes, the history teacher explained that there are actually eighty-one domes in total. The students walked inside the grand prayer hall, admiring the beautiful terracotta designs and the thick stone pillars that have kept the building strong for hundreds of years.

After exploring the mosque, the group visited the nearby Ghora Dighi, a huge and peaceful pond. The students sat under the big trees near the water and ate their packed lunch together. They also visited the shrine of Khan Jahan Ali and learned many interesting stories about his life and his good works for the local people.

The trip was not only full of fun but also very educational. Everyone returned home in the evening with a lot of practical knowledge about our rich history and culture.

স্থানীয় সংবাদদাতা, বাগেরহাট, ১০ নভেম্বর, ২০২৬: খুলনা জিলা স্কুলের পঞ্চাশজন শিক্ষার্থী এবং পাঁচজন শিক্ষকের একটি দল সম্প্রতি বাগেরহাটের বিখ্যাত ষাট গম্বুজ মসজিদে একটি অত্যন্ত রোমাঞ্চকর ভ্রমণ করেছে। ১৫শ শতাব্দীতে মহান সাধক খান জাহান আলী নির্মিত এই ঐতিহাসিক স্থানটি বাংলাদেশের প্রাচীন ইসলামি স্থাপত্যের এক চমৎকার নিদর্শন।

সকাল ১০টায় স্কুল বাসটি মসজিদ এলাকায় পৌঁছায়। বিশাল প্রাঙ্গণে প্রবেশ করা মাত্রই বিশাল ইটের ভবন এবং এর অসংখ্য গম্বুজ দেখে শিক্ষার্থীরা অবাক হয়ে যায়। যদিও নাম শুনে মনে হয় ষাটটি গম্বুজ, কিন্তু ইতিহাসের শিক্ষক ব্যাখ্যা করেন যে আসলে সেখানে মোট একাশিটি গম্বুজ রয়েছে। শিক্ষার্থীরা বিশাল নামাজ ঘরের ভেতরে হেঁটে যায় এবং সুন্দর টেরাকোটার নকশা ও শত শত বছর ধরে ভবনটিকে মজবুত রাখা মোটা পাথরের স্তম্ভগুলো দেখে মুগ্ধ হয়।

মসজিদ ঘুরে দেখার পর, দলটি কাছাকাছি অবস্থিত ঘোড়া দীঘি নামের একটি বিশাল ও শান্ত পুকুর পরিদর্শন করে। শিক্ষার্থীরা জলের ধারে বড় গাছের নিচে বসে একসাথে তাদের আনা দুপুরের খাবার খায়। তারা খান জাহান আলীর মাজারও পরিদর্শন করে এবং তার জীবন ও স্থানীয় মানুষের জন্য করা তার ভালো কাজ সম্পর্কে অনেক মজার গল্প জানতে পারে।

ভ্রমণটি কেবল আনন্দদায়কই ছিল না, বরং অনেক শিক্ষামূলকও ছিল। আমাদের সমৃদ্ধ ইতিহাস ও সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে প্রচুর ব্যবহারিক জ্ঞান নিয়ে সন্ধ্যায় সবাই বাড়ি ফিরে আসে।]

A Happy School Trip to Lalbagh Fort

Staff Reporter, Dhaka, December 5, 2026: Yesterday, our school took us on a very happy trip to Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka. We were forty students and three teachers. We started our journey in the morning by a big bus and reached the fort very quickly.

Lalbagh Fort is a very old and famous place. It was built by Mughal rulers many years ago. When we went inside the big gate, we saw a huge garden with green grass and beautiful flowers. In the middle of the garden, there is a nice building made of red stones. Our teacher told us it is the beautiful tomb of Pari Bibi. We ran around the open space and had a lot of fun together.

We also went inside a small museum there. We saw old swords, shields, ancient coins, and beautiful dresses worn by the kings and soldiers in the past. It was very exciting to see the real things from history.

At noon, we sat on the soft grass and ate delicious biryani. We took many colorful pictures with our friends and teachers. Visiting this old historical place was much better than reading about it in a book. We learned many new things and came back home with a very happy mind.

[লালবাগ কেল্লায় একটি আনন্দদায়ক স্কুল ভ্রমণ

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার, ঢাকা, ৫ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৬: গতকাল আমাদের স্কুল থেকে আমাদের ঢাকার লালবাগ কেল্লায় একটি খুব আনন্দের ভ্রমণে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়েছিল। আমরা চল্লিশজন শিক্ষার্থী ও তিনজন শিক্ষক ছিলাম। সকালে আমরা বড় একটি বাসে করে আমাদের যাত্রা শুরু করি এবং খুব দ্রুত কেল্লায় পৌঁছে যাই।

লালবাগ কেল্লা একটি খুব পুরনো ও বিখ্যাত জায়গা। অনেক বছর আগে মুঘল শাসকরা এটি তৈরি করেছিলেন। আমরা যখন বড় গেটের ভেতরে ঢুকলাম, তখন আমরা সবুজ ঘাস ও সুন্দর ফুলসহ একটি বিশাল বাগান দেখলাম। বাগানের ঠিক মাঝখানে লাল পাথর দিয়ে তৈরি একটি সুন্দর ভবন রয়েছে। আমাদের শিক্ষক জানালেন এটি পরী বিবির সুন্দর মাজার। আমরা খোলা জায়গায় দৌড়াদৌড়ি করলাম এবং একসাথে অনেক মজা করলাম।

আমরা সেখানকার একটি ছোট জাদুঘরের ভেতরেও গিয়েছিলাম। আমরা পুরনো তলোয়ার, ঢাল, প্রাচীন মুদ্রা এবং অতীতে রাজা ও সৈন্যদের পরা সুন্দর পোশাক দেখলাম। ইতিহাস থেকে সত্যিকারের জিনিসগুলো দেখা খুব রোমাঞ্চকর ছিল।

দুপুরে আমরা নরম ঘাসের ওপর বসে সুস্বাদু বিরিয়ানি খেলাম। আমরা আমাদের বন্ধু ও শিক্ষকদের সাথে অনেক রঙিন ছবি তুললাম। বইয়ে পড়ার চেয়ে এই পুরনো ঐতিহাসিক জায়গাটি ঘুরে দেখা অনেক বেশি ভালো ছিল। আমরা অনেক নতুন জিনিস শিখলাম এবং খুব খুশি মন নিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরে এলাম।]
