Traffic Jam in Most of the Places in Dhaka

Yesterday, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., hundreds of trucks, tankers, cars and two – wheelers were caught in the traffic Checking from Mohamad Ali Road to Meghna Bridge Junction and from Motijeel,Dhaka road to  New Market Road. It was learnt from reliable sources that the situation had been caused by a political procession. Matters became worse as the traffic was at its peak during those hours. Many vehicle owners who tried to avoid the traffic jam by using the interior roads and lanes found themselves going in circles. It took the motorists almost an hour and a half to reach Motijeel,Dhaka road to New Market Road. The traffic police found it difficult to maintain order. Milon Akhter, a taxi driver, said, “I have been driving from the past 12 years but I have never witnessed a traffic jam of this proportion.”

Traffic jam has become a serious problem nowadays. Long lines of vehicles at different traffic points are seen every day. The roads and streets are very narrow in comparison with the number of vehicles. The licensed and unlicensed rickshaws, chaotic scooters, the forgoing buses and above all the overloaded lorries are mostly liable for traffic jam. The drivers are not well trained and well educated. Overtaking tendency also causes traffic jam. The number of traffic police is insufficient. Unconsciousness among people, unskilled traffic police, haphazard vehicles parking, narrow road points are also responsible for creating traffic jam. Moreover, manually driven slow moving vehicles like rickshaw, vans and pushcarts ply along the city roads. They often make race with each other senselessly. They almost don’t care about road signs. Frequent road construction and maintenance work often create traffic problem. Sometimes different political parties are found to use city roads for their political activities. The general people expect a permanent solution of the problems.

Unbearable Traffic Gridlock Paralyzes Daily Life in Capital's Commercial Hub

Tanvir Hossain, Staff Reporter, Dhaka, October 15, 2026: A massive traffic gridlock brought the city's busiest commercial corridors to a complete standstill yesterday, causing unbearable suffering for thousands of commuters. The severe tailback stretched continuously from the Farmgate intersection all the way to Shahbagh and Karwan Bazar, leaving vehicles stranded for more than four agonizing hours during the morning rush.

According to traffic control authorities, this unprecedented congestion was triggered by a combination of unannounced VIP movement and ongoing underground cable maintenance work near the Bangla Motor crossing. As major arterial roads were temporarily blocked, the immense volume of office-bound buses, private cars, and motorbikes spilled over into narrow residential alleyways, creating a chaotic labyrinth.

The consequences were devastating for ordinary citizens. Desperate office-goers were forced to abandon their vehicles and walk miles under the scorching sun. Most tragically, several ambulances carrying critical patients were seen helplessly trapped in the sea of motionless vehicles, their sirens wailing to no avail.

Urban transport experts continuously warn that Dhaka's traffic nightmare is worsening due to a severe lack of lane discipline, illegal parking by VIPs, and an overwhelming number of private cars. Although the introduction of the metro rail has provided some relief, experts argue that without strict enforcement of traffic laws, decentralization of administrative offices, and a massive overhaul of the public bus system, this daily paralysis will continue to bleed the national economy by wasting millions of valuable working hours.

সাধারণ নাগরিকদের জন্য এর পরিণতি ছিল ভয়াবহ। মরিয়া হয়ে অনেক চাকরিজীবী যানবাহন ছেড়ে প্রখর রোদের নিচে পায়ে হেঁটে দীর্ঘ পথ পাড়ি দিতে বাধ্য হন। সবচেয়ে মর্মান্তিক দৃশ্য ছিল, মুমূর্ষু রোগী বহনকারী কয়েকটি অ্যাম্বুলেন্সকে স্থির যানবাহনের সাগরে অসহায়ভাবে আটকে থাকতে দেখা যায়, যাদের সাইরেনের শব্দ কোনো কাজেই আসছিল না।

Terrible Traffic Jam Causes Extreme Suffering from Mirpur to Dhanmondi

Local Correspondent, Dhaka, November 12, 2026: Yesterday morning, city dwellers faced a terrible traffic jam that created extreme suffering on the roads from Mirpur 10 to Dhanmondi. Thousands of school children, university students, and office workers were stuck in their vehicles for two to three hours without moving a single inch.

The main reason for this huge traffic jam was a large passenger bus that broke down suddenly in the middle of the road near the Agargaon signal. Because it was the morning rush hour, a long line of buses, cars, and rickshaws quickly formed behind the broken vehicle. To make matters worse, some impatient drivers tried to overtake from the wrong side, which completely blocked the opposite lane as well.

People sitting inside the local buses felt very sick due to the heavy smoke, dust, and continuous loud horns. Many students missed their important classes, and office workers reached their workplaces very late. The traffic police struggled very hard for two hours to move the broken bus using a wrecker and finally cleared the road.

Traffic jams have become an everyday problem in our city. The government must widen the narrow roads and strictly punish those drivers who do not follow the traffic rules, so that normal people can travel peacefully.

এই বিশাল যানজটের প্রধান কারণ ছিল আগারগাঁও সিগন্যালের কাছে রাস্তার মাঝখানে হঠাৎ একটি বড় যাত্রীবাহী বাস নষ্ট হয়ে যাওয়া। সকালের ব্যস্ত সময় হওয়ায় নষ্ট গাড়িটির পেছনে দ্রুত বাস, গাড়ি ও রিকশার দীর্ঘ সারি তৈরি হয়। পরিস্থিতি আরও খারাপ হয় যখন কিছু অধৈর্য চালক ভুল দিক থেকে ওভারটেক করার চেষ্টা করে, যা বিপরীত লেনটিকেও সম্পূর্ণ আটকে দেয়।

লোকাল বাসের ভেতরে বসে থাকা মানুষ প্রচুর ধোঁয়া, ধুলাবালি এবং একটানা উচ্চ শব্দের হর্নের কারণে বেশ অসুস্থ বোধ করেন। অনেক শিক্ষার্থী তাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্লাস মিস করে এবং অফিসকর্মীরা অনেক দেরিতে তাদের কর্মস্থলে পৌঁছান। ট্রাফিক পুলিশ রেকার ব্যবহার করে নষ্ট বাসটি সরাতে দুই ঘণ্টা ধরে কঠোর সংগ্রাম করে এবং অবশেষে রাস্তা পরিষ্কার করে।

যানজট আমাদের শহরের একটি নিত্যদিনের সমস্যা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। সরকারের উচিত সরু রাস্তাগুলো প্রশস্ত করা এবং যেসব চালক ট্রাফিক নিয়ম মানে না তাদের কঠোর শাস্তি দেওয়া, যাতে সাধারণ মানুষ শান্তিতে যাতায়াত করতে পারে।]

A Bad Traffic Jam on Our City Roads

Staff Reporter, Dhaka, December 5, 2026: Yesterday, there was a very bad traffic jam in the Badda area of our city. Hundreds of buses, cars, and rickshaws stopped on the main road. They could not move forward or backward for a long time.

The traffic jam happened because there were too many vehicles on the narrow street. Also, some bad drivers did not follow the red traffic lights. They tried to go fast and blocked all the ways.

The people in the cars and buses suffered a lot. School children were crying because it was very hot inside the bus. The loud sound of car horns gave everyone a big headache. Even a white ambulance with a sick patient was stuck in the middle of the road.

A few traffic police officers came and tried to control the cars. After waiting for two hours, the vehicles slowly started moving again. We all must obey the traffic rules and drive carefully to stop these sad traffic jams in our beautiful city.

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার, ঢাকা, ৫ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৬: গতকাল আমাদের শহরের বাড্ডা এলাকায় খুব খারাপ একটি যানজট ছিল। শত শত বাস, গাড়ি ও রিকশা মূল রাস্তায় থেমে ছিল। তারা দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে সামনে বা পেছনে যেতে পারছিল না।

রাস্তায় অতিরিক্ত যানবাহন থাকার কারণে এই যানজট ঘটে। তাছাড়া, কিছু খারাপ চালক লাল ট্রাফিক বাতি মেনে চলেনি। তারা দ্রুত যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করে সব পথ আটকে দেয়।

গাড়ি ও বাসে থাকা মানুষরা অনেক কষ্ট পায়। বাসের ভেতর খুব গরম থাকায় স্কুলের শিশুরা কাঁদছিল। গাড়ির হর্নের উচ্চ শব্দে সবার খুব মাথা ব্যথা করছিল। এমনকি একজন অসুস্থ রোগী নিয়ে একটি সাদা অ্যাম্বুলেন্সও রাস্তার মাঝখানে আটকে ছিল।

কয়েকজন ট্রাফিক পুলিশ কর্মকর্তা এসে গাড়িগুলো নিয়ন্ত্রণ করার চেষ্টা করেন। দুই ঘণ্টা অপেক্ষা করার পর ধীরে ধীরে গাড়িগুলো আবার চলতে শুরু করে। আমাদের সুন্দর শহরে এই দুঃখজনক যানজট থামাতে আমাদের সবাইকে অবশ্যই ট্রাফিক নিয়ম মেনে চলতে হবে এবং সাবধানে গাড়ি চালাতে হবে।]
