Sadek, Dhaka, February 1, 2023: In Bangladesh, women constitute half of the total population and play a crucial role in shaping society. Traditionally, women have been confined to domestic duties, dedicating their lives to household chores and family care. However, with shifting societal attitudes and increased opportunities for education and employment, the role of women in Bangladeshi society is undergoing a significant transformation.

In the past, women were restricted to the confines of their homes, solely responsible for child-rearing, cooking, and maintaining the household. They supported men in their occupational endeavors, both within the home and in agricultural activities. However, recent years have witnessed a paradigm shift in societal norms, with a diminishing tolerance for discrimination against women.

Today, women are breaking free from the confines of traditional roles and actively participating in various spheres of public life. Empowered by education, skills, and abilities, women are venturing into diverse fields, including official and non-official employment, government and non-government sectors, self-employment enterprises, and business and commerce.

The contributions of women in professions such as nursing, teaching, law, medicine, engineering, and journalism are commendable. Notably, the garment industry, a cornerstone of Bangladesh's economy, owes much of its success to the labor of women. Across all sectors of out-of-home work, women are making significant strides, demonstrating their capability and commitment to national development.

It is evident that the involvement of women in all facets of society is indispensable for the progress and prosperity of the nation. By harnessing the potential of women and providing them with equal opportunities, Bangladesh can achieve inclusive growth and foster a more equitable society. The evolving role of women underscores the imperative of gender equality and empowerment, ensuring that no segment of the population is sidelined in the journey towards progress.

Yesterday, the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce hosted the "Women in Leadership Expo 2026," showcasing the remarkable strides women are making in previously male-dominated arenas. Over 150 female entrepreneurs displayed innovative tech startups, agro-based businesses, and export-quality handicrafts, proving that modern women are actively taking charge of their destinies and contributing massively to the national GDP.

The honorable Minister of Women and Children Affairs inaugurated the event as the chief guest. In her address, she noted that Bangladeshi women are no longer just passive contributors to the readymade garment (RMG) sector; they are now emerging as successful CEOs, software developers, and civil engineers. In rural areas, micro-finance initiatives and technical training have enabled women to achieve financial independence, which has drastically reduced gender-based marginalization and domestic dependence.

However, speakers at the symposium highlighted that despite these monumental achievements, working women still face significant hurdles, including workplace safety concerns, the wage gap, and the dual burden of professional and household responsibilities. Sociologists at the expo argued that true national development is unachievable without ensuring absolute gender parity. The event concluded with a strong call to action for both state authorities and corporate sectors to dismantle the remaining patriarchal barriers, ensuring that women can equally steer the nation's socioeconomic future.

Women in Khulna Change Their Lives Through Handloom Work

Local Correspondent, Khulna, April 12, 2026: The role of women in the rural society of Bangladesh is changing very fast. In the past, women in villages only stayed at home, cooked food, and looked after their children. But now, they are stepping out to work and support their families. Recently, a local NGO arranged a special program in Dumuria upazila of Khulna to celebrate the great success of rural working women.

Over two hundred women from different villages attended the program. They shared their life stories and explained how they learned block printing, tailoring, and handloom work. By selling these beautiful handmade products in the local markets, they are earning a good amount of money every month. This new income helps them to send their daughters to school and buy nutritious food for their families without depending entirely on their husbands.

The local Upazila Chairman, who attended the meeting as a guest, praised their hard work. He said that our country cannot move forward if half of its population sits idle at home. Although women are doing great things today, they still face problems like lower wages than men. Society must change its old mindset and give women proper respect and equal chances. When women are educated and self-reliant, the whole nation prospers and becomes strong.

A long time ago, some people thought that girls should only stay in the kitchen and do house work all day. But now, the time has completely changed. Yesterday, a big meeting was held at the Cumilla Town Hall to talk about the good work of women.

Many female teachers, doctors, and smart college students came to the meeting. The Mayor of Cumilla was the chief guest. He said that women are now working in big offices, driving cars, and even playing cricket for our country. In our garment factories, thousands of women work very hard to make beautiful clothes. Because of their hard work, our country is getting richer every day.

Parents are now happily sending their daughters to schools and colleges. Girls are reading books and getting the highest marks in their exams. But sometimes, bad people still think girls are weak and cannot do hard jobs. We must stop thinking like this. Boys and girls are equal friends. If we give our girls good education, respect, and love, they will make our beautiful Bangladesh a very strong and happy country.

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার, কুমিল্লা, ৫ মে, ২০২৬: আমাদের দেশে নারী ও মেয়েরা আজ খুব ভালো কাজ করছে। অনেক দিন আগে, কিছু মানুষ মনে করত যে মেয়েদের কেবল রান্নাঘরে থাকা উচিত এবং সারাদিন ঘরের কাজ করা উচিত। কিন্তু এখন, সময় পুরোপুরি বদলে গেছে। নারীদের ভালো কাজ নিয়ে কথা বলার জন্য গতকাল কুমিল্লা টাউন হলে একটি বড় সভার আয়োজন করা হয়।

অনেক নারী শিক্ষক, ডাক্তার এবং স্মার্ট কলেজছাত্রী এই সভায় এসেছিলেন। কুমিল্লার মেয়র ছিলেন প্রধান অতিথি। তিনি বলেন, নারীরা এখন বড় বড় অফিসে কাজ করছেন, গাড়ি চালাচ্ছেন এবং এমনকি আমাদের দেশের হয়ে ক্রিকেটও খেলছেন। আমাদের পোশাক কারখানাগুলোতে হাজার হাজার নারী সুন্দর পোশাক তৈরি করতে খুব কঠোর পরিশ্রম করেন। তাদের কঠোর পরিশ্রমের কারণে আমাদের দেশ প্রতিদিন আরও ধনী হচ্ছে।
