Bad Law and Order Situation in the City
Staff Reporter, The Daily Star, Dhaka, August 25
The law and order situation in our country, especially in the capital city, is getting worse every day. Common people are living in great fear and anxiety. They do not feel safe in their own houses or on the streets. Every day, newspapers are full of terrible news like murder, kidnapping, extortion, and robbery.
The criminals have become very brave and reckless. They carry illegal weapons and commit crimes in broad daylight. The main reason behind this problem is the weakness of the legal system. Sometimes, the police do not perform their duties properly. Moreover, some corrupt politicians give shelter to these criminals. Because of this, criminals easily escape from punishment.
This bad situation is destroying the peaceful life of the citizens. Businessmen are afraid to run their businesses. Parents are worried about their children's safety when they go to school.
We cannot let this dangerous situation continue. The government must take very strict steps immediately to control the situation. The police and other law enforcement agencies must be more active and honest. They should patrol the streets day and night. Criminals must be arrested and punished quickly without any political consideration. Above all, public awareness is very necessary to build a safe and peaceful society.

Staff Reporter, The Daily Star, Dhaka, August 26
Mugging and hijacking have become a very common and frightening problem in the city. The number of these crimes is increasing rapidly. It has become very risky for citizens to move safely outside, especially after sunset.
Muggers usually target lonely pedestrians, women, and passengers in rickshaws. They wait in dark streets and suddenly attack innocent people. They use sharp knives, pistols, and other dangerous weapons to scare people. They forcefully take away mobile phones, gold chains, watches, and cash money. Mob Justice: A Dangerous Social Disease
Staff Reporter, The Daily Star, Dhaka, August 27
Recently, a very dangerous trend called "mob justice" has increased in our country. Mob justice happens when an angry crowd catches a suspected person and beats him without any legal trial. This is a very cruel and completely illegal act.
In a civilized society, no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. But sadly, we often see people beating suspected thieves, robbers, or kidnappers to death on the streets. This happens mostly because ordinary people have lost their faith in the legal system. They think the police will release the criminals if they take bribes. So, the angry public tries to give instant punishment.
However, this is a terrible mistake. Often, due to false rumors, the blind crowd attacks completely innocent people. Many poor and mentally sick people have lost their valuable lives because of blind mob anger.
This barbaric practice must be stopped to save the rule of law. The police must arrest the real criminals and ensure their proper punishment. The court should finish trials quickly. If people trust the police and the courts, they will not beat anyone. The government must also start public awareness campaigns against mob justice.
