International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibash were observed at Feni Victoria College yesterday with profound respect and solemnity. The day-long program was organized to pay deep homage to the heroic sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives to establish the dignity of our mother tongue on February 21, 1952.

The observance commenced at the crack of dawn with a traditional mourning procession, widely known as 'Probhat Feri'. Hundreds of students, teachers, and college staff gathered on the campus wearing black badges. Walking barefoot, they marched towards the college Shaheed Minar, singing the immortal, heart-touching song, "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano." The Principal of the college first placed a floral wreath at the monument. Subsequently, other teachers and student organizations placed flowers to show their profound respect for the language martyrs.

Later in the morning, a significant discussion meeting was held at the college auditorium, with the Principal presiding over the session. In their speeches, the speakers highlighted the glorious history of the Language Movement and the supreme sacrifices of heroes like Rafiq, Shafiq, Salam, Barkat, and Jabbar. They strongly urged the young generation to practice correct Bangla in every sphere of life and resist foreign cultural aggression.

Following the discussion, a vibrant cultural program was arranged. Students brilliantly performed patriotic songs, recited historic poems, and staged a short drama based on the tragic events of 1952. The entire atmosphere was filled with a deep sense of patriotism and national pride. The historic day concluded with a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs.

International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibash were observed across the country on February 21 with great respect and solemnity. The day was observed to remember the supreme sacrifice of the language martyrs of 1952.
