Illegal Easy-bikes: A New Hazard on City Streets

In recent years, battery-operated easy-bikes have become a very common transport in our cities and towns. Although they are a cheap way to travel, the rapid increase of these illegal vehicles has created a massive problem for the common citizens. They are now the main cause of heavy traffic jams and daily road accidents.

Most of these easy-bikes are completely illegal and do not have any registration from the government authorities. Furthermore, the drivers of these vehicles are mostly untrained. Many young boys and inexperienced men drive these bikes recklessly on busy roads. They do not know or care about traffic rules. They frequently stop in the middle of the road to pick up or drop off passengers, which instantly creates long traffic queues.

Because these vehicles are very light and structurally weak, they lose balance very easily. If they brake suddenly or turn sharply, they overturn, causing severe injuries to the helpless passengers. In many cases, these accidents lead to tragic deaths. Also, charging thousands of easy-bike batteries every night wastes a huge amount of national electricity.

To bring back discipline on the roads, the government must take strict actions immediately. The authorities must stop the import and production of these unsafe vehicles. Easy-bikes should be strictly banned from main city roads and highways to ensure public safety and smooth traffic.

Easy-bikes Paralyze City Traffic: Citizens Suffer Daily

The traffic system of our city has completely collapsed, mainly because of the uncontrolled movement of thousands of illegal easy-bikes. These slow-moving vehicles occupy almost every road, lane, and intersection, causing unbearable traffic congestion from morning till night.

These easy-bikes have no fixed stoppages. The drivers park them wherever they want, completely blocking the narrow city roads. When hundreds of easy-bikes gather near bus stands, schools, or markets, no other vehicles can pass. As a result, serious traffic jams occur. This situation brings endless suffering to the city dwellers. Office-goers cannot reach their workplaces on time. School and college students become extremely tired while sitting in traffic for hours. The worst sufferers are the serious patients in ambulances who sometimes die on the road just because of these artificial traffic blocks.

Moreover, easy-bike drivers have a bad habit of driving on the wrong side of the road to save time. This reckless behavior not only creates more traffic jams but also leads to head-on collisions with other vehicles.

It is high time the city corporation and the traffic police took severe steps to control this mess. These illegal vehicles must not be allowed to enter the main roads under any circumstances. Fixing specific lanes and limiting their numbers can be a temporary solution to reduce this terrible traffic congestion.

Unsafe Easy-bikes Increasing Fatal Road Accidents

Road accidents have dangerously increased in recent times, and illegal easy-bikes are largely responsible for this tragic situation. These battery-run vehicles are very badly designed and completely unsafe for passenger transport. Every day, newspapers publish sad news of people dying or getting disabled in easy-bike accidents.

The main problem with an easy-bike is its poor physical structure. It is very light, but the drivers often carry six to eight passengers to earn more money. Because of this heavy load and light body, the vehicle cannot maintain balance on bumpy roads. When a driver drives at a high speed and suddenly pulls the brake, the easy-bike flips over immediately. There are no seatbelts or strong doors to protect the passengers, so they fall directly onto the hard road and suffer severe head injuries or broken bones.

Another big danger is that easy-bikes are often driven on busy national highways alongside heavy trucks and fast buses. Since easy-bikes run silently and at a lower speed, heavy vehicles from behind often crush them, causing massive loss of life in seconds.

Human life is very valuable. We cannot let people die simply because of a cheap transport system. The traffic department must run mobile courts continuously to seize these unfit vehicles from the highways. Citizens must also be conscious and avoid riding these dangerous vehicles to protect their own lives.

Three Killed as Easy-bike Overturns in the Capital

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three innocent people and left two others critically injured when a speeding easy-bike overturned on the main road in Mirpur yesterday morning. This sad incident has once again proved how dangerous these illegal vehicles are for public safety.

The tragic accident took place at around 9:00 AM. According to eyewitnesses, the easy-bike was carrying five passengers and moving at a very high speed. Suddenly, a dog tried to cross the street. Trying to save the dog, the young, inexperienced driver pulled the brake very hard. Because of the sudden brake and high speed, the lightweight vehicle instantly lost its balance and overturned violently on the paved road.

The helpless passengers were thrown out of the vehicle. Three passengers, including a school teacher and a young student, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. The local people quickly rescued the other two injured passengers and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the easy-bike managed to run away right after the accident.

Following the incident, angry locals blocked the road for two hours, demanding a permanent ban on illegal easy-bikes on main streets. Later, the police arrived, pacified the agitated public, and recovered the dead bodies. The police have filed an unnatural death case and are searching for the runaway driver.
