"Devastating fire in Garments factory"

Staff Reporter, Gazipur, July 5, 2018: A devastating fire broke out at about 12 p.m yesterday at Modern Garments Gazipur, which has gutted the largest portion of the garments houses. The caretaker of the building died and at least 11 workers are gravely injured. The injured workers have been taken to hospital.

According to the primary investigation, the fire originated from electric short circuit. "The fire swiftly engulfed the whole building in the twinkle of an eye", a witness said. The people living near the building rushed to the building and tried to put out the fire with buckets, gunny sacks etc. But they failed to bring the fire under control. Later fire brigade came to the spot and extinguished the fire within one hour.

About 50 workers have injured while they were trying to save there life in a hurry. The relatives of the injured workers and the local people complained that they could not get down timely because of the closed collapsible gate. In this regard, the security guard and the manager are being investigated. Approximately, the amount of loss is 30 Lac Tk. according to the proprietor of the Garments.

Tanvir Hossain, Staff Reporter, Narayanganj, September 12, 2026: A catastrophic fire broke out yesterday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m. inside the multi-story manufacturing unit of Apex Textile Mill located in the BSCIC industrial area of Narayanganj. The ferocious blaze completely devastated the finishing and packaging floor, resulting in the tragic deaths of three staff members and leaving twenty-two workers severely injured.

According to preliminary findings by the fire service and civil defence department, the inferno was triggered by a sudden electrical short circuit near the main power substation. The flames spread rapidly due to the presence of large stockpiles of cotton, synthetic yarn, and finished fabric rolls. Panicked workers rushed toward the emergency exits, but many suffered burn injuries and smoke inhalation during the stampede.

Local villagers and factory security personnel made frantic efforts to douse the flames using sand buckets before firefighting units arrived. Six firefighting engines from nearby stations battled the intense blaze for over two hours to bring it under control.

Furious relatives and coworkers later staged a protest outside the factory gates, alleging that the main exit gate was locked from the outside during working hours, trapping the victims inside. Local police detained the factory floor manager for questioning regarding safety protocol violations. The factory proprietor estimated the total financial loss to be around Tk. 1.5 crore.

ফায়ার সার্ভিসের ইউনিটগুলো পৌঁছানোর আগে স্থানীয় গ্রামবাসী ও কারখানার নিরাপত্তাকর্মীরা বালতি ভর্তি বালি দিয়ে আগুন নেভানোর চেষ্টা করেন। আশপাশের স্টেশন থেকে আসা ছয়টি ফায়ার ইউনিট দুই ঘণ্টারও বেশি সময় ধরে তীব্র লড়াই চালিয়ে আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনে।

ক্ষুব্ধ স্বজন ও সহকর্মীরা পরে কারখানার গেটের বাইরে বিক্ষোভ করেন এবং অভিযোগ করেন যে কাজের সময় মূল এক্সিট গেটটি বাইরে থেকে তালাবদ্ধ ছিল, যার কারণে ভুক্তভোগীরা ভেতরে আটকে পড়েন। নিরাপত্তা প্রোটোকল লঙ্ঘনের অভিযোগে স্থানীয় পুলিশ কারখানার ফ্লোর ম্যানেজারকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের জন্য আটক করেছে। কারখানার মালিক মোট আর্থিক ক্ষতির পরিমাণ প্রায় ১.৫ কোটি টাকা বলে অনুমান করেছেন।]

Severe Fire at Star Garments Factory in Chattogram

Local Correspondent, Chattogram, September 12, 2026: A terrible fire occurred at the Star Garments factory situated in the Agrabad commercial area of Chattogram yesterday evening. The fire started around 6:00 p.m. when most of the workers were finishing their shift and preparing to leave.

Workers reported that thick black smoke suddenly started coming out of the electrical room on the ground floor. Within minutes, the heavy smoke filled the entire staircase, creating massive panic among the hundreds of workers inside. Many employees managed to run out safely through the back door, but at least fifteen workers sustained injuries while trying to escape in a hurry.

Three units of the local fire brigade rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call. Firefighters worked hard for nearly an hour and a half to put out the fire completely. The injured workers were quickly sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The factory owner told reporters that the fire destroyed a huge amount of expensive sewing machinery and exported clothing items. Police have started an investigation to find the exact reason behind the short circuit and to check if the factory had proper fire safety equipment.

জরুরি কল পাওয়ার পর স্থানীয় ফায়ার সার্ভিসের তিনটি ইউনিট দ্রুত ঘটনাস্থলে ছুটে যায়। ফায়ার সার্ভিস কর্মীরা সম্পূর্ণ আগুন নেভাতে প্রায় দেড় ঘণ্টা কঠোর পরিশ্রম করেন। আহত শ্রমিকদের দ্রুত চিকিৎসার জন্য চট্টগ্রাম মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়।

Fire Burns Down Small Garments Workshop in Dhaka

Staff Reporter, Dhaka, September 12, 2026: A bad fire burned down a garment workshop in the Mirpur area of Dhaka yesterday. The fire started suddenly at noon when the workers were taking their lunch break.

People living near the workshop saw sudden flames and loud noises coming from inside the building. They shouted for help and threw water with buckets to stop the fire. But the fire was too big because there were many clothes and cloth pieces inside.

Soon, the fire brigade came with two big red cars. The brave firefighters sprayed water and put out the fire within an hour. Ten workers got minor cuts and burns on their hands and legs while running out of the burning room. An ambulance took them to a nearby clinic for first aid.

The owner of the workshop was crying because all his sewing machines and new clothes were burnt to ashes. Police said the fire started from a broken electric wire. People are saying that factories must keep water and safety tools ready to stop such bad accidents in the future.

শীঘ্রই ফায়ার সার্ভিস দুটি বড় লাল গাড়ি নিয়ে আসে। সাহসী ফায়ারকর্মীরা পানি ছিটিয়ে এক ঘণ্টার মধ্যে আগুন নিভিয়ে ফেলেন। জ্বলন্ত রুম থেকে বেরিয়ে আসার সময় দশজন শ্রমিকের হাত ও পায়ে সামান্য কাটা ও পোড়া দাগ লাগে। প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসার জন্য একটি অ্যাম্বুলেন্স তাদের কাছের একটি ক্লিনিকে নিয়ে যায়।

কারখানার মালিক কান্নাকাটি করছিলেন কারণ তার সব সেলাই মেশিন ও নতুন কাপড় পুড়ে ছাই হয়ে গেছে। পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, ভাঙা বৈদ্যুতিক তার থেকে আগুনের সূত্রপাত হয়েছে। ভবিষ্যতে এমন খারাপ দুর্ঘটনা রোধ করতে কারখানাগুলোতে অবশ্যই পানি ও নিরাপত্তার সরঞ্জাম প্রস্তুত রাখতে হবে বলে সাধারণ মানুষ বলছেন।]
