Rabindranath Tagore was one of the most leading poets in the history of the world literature. He was born in the renowned Tagore family in March, 1861. After the completion of his house education he was sent to school. But he did not like institutional education. At the age of seventeen he was sent to London to study Law. But he studied literature with Professor Henry Morley only for a few months and then returned home. Only at the age of eight he started composing poems. He wrote his poetic novel 'Banaful' at the age of fifteen. When he was sixteen, his poems and essays were being published in journals. After returning from England, he began to write tirelessly all branches of literature. In 1911 he translated his poems of "The Geetanjali" ; into English which brought him the highest honor in the form of the Nobel Prize in 1913. One year after his awarding of the Nobel Prize, he was made a Knight by the British Government which he renounced as a protest against the atrocities of the British Government at Jalianwalabagh. The University of Oxford honored him with D. Lit. in 1940. Earlier in 1921, he laid the foundation of Visa Bahrain. At the age of 80, Rabindranath. Tagore breathed his last.

The University of Oxford honoured the poet with D Lit in 1940. Earlier in 1921, he laid the foundation of Viswa Bhrati. At the age of eighty, Rabindranath Tagore breathed his last.

রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর পৃথিবীসেরা সাহিত্যিকদের মধ্যে অন্যতম। তিনি ১৮৬১ সালের মার্চ মাসে বিখ্যাত ঠাকুর পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। নিজের প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা শেষ করার পর তাকে স্কুলে পাঠানো হয়। তবে তিনি প্রতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষার প্রতি আগ্রহী ছিলেন না। সতেরো বছর বয়সে তাকে লন্ডনে আইন পড়তে পাঠানো হয়। তবে সেখানে তিনি শুধু কিছু মাস অধ্যাপক হেনরি মরলির কাছে সাহিত্য পড়েছিলেন এবং পরে দেশে ফিরে আসেন। আট বছর বয়সে তিনি কবিতা লেখা শুরু করেন। পনেরো বছর বয়সে তিনি তার কবিতা-নাটক বনফুল লিখেন। ষোলো বছর বয়সে তার কবিতা ও প্রবন্ধ পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত হতে থাকে। ইংল্যান্ড থেকে ফিরে এসে তিনি সাহিত্যের বিভিন্ন শাখায় অবিরাম লেখালেখি করেন। ১৯১১ সালে তিনি গীতাঞ্জলি কবিতাগুলি ইংরেজিতে অনুবাদ করেন, যা তাকে ১৯১৩ সালে নোবেল পুরস্কারে ভূষিত করে। নোবেল পুরস্কার পাওয়ার এক বছর পর, ব্রিটিশ সরকার তাকে নাইট উপাধি প্রদান করে, কিন্তু তিনি জালিয়ানওয়ালাবাগ হত্যাকাণ্ডের প্রতিবাদে এই উপাধি প্রত্যাখ্যান করেন। ১৯৪০ সালে অক্সফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তাকে ডি. লিট সম্মানে ভূষিত করে। ১৯২১ সালে তিনি বিশ্বভারতী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। ৮০ বছর বয়সে রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর পরলোকগমন করেন।
