A Pleasant Revenge
Once, an Emperor was informed that some of his subjects in a distant province had revolted against him. Hearing this, he declared, “Come, follow me, and I shall destroy my enemies.”
The Emperor marched with his army to confront the rebels. However, upon his arrival, the rebels surrendered and submitted to his authority. Everyone expected the Emperor to punish them harshly for their revolt. But to everyone’s surprise, the Emperor treated them with kindness, compassion, and humanity.
One of his chief ministers, puzzled by his actions, asked, “Your Majesty, you promised to destroy your enemies, yet you have pardoned them and even shown favor to some. Is this how you keep your word?”
The Emperor calmly replied, “I did promise to destroy my enemies. But these men are no longer my enemies—I have turned them into my friends. So, my promise has not been broken.”
Like this wise Emperor, we too should strive to overcome evil with good. Through acts of kindness and forgiveness, we can transform hostility into friendship and make the world a better place.
