TOPIC: PREPOSITION


Rule: Preposition এর পরে Noun/Noun phrase/Pronoun বসে। Definition: যে Word কোনো Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে Sentence এর অন্যান্য Word এর সাথে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে তাকে Preposition বলে। (Pre- পূর্বে, Position- অবস্থান) Example: There is a cow in the field.

Types of Prepositions:

  1. Simple Preposition: একটি মাত্র word দ্বারা গঠিত। (at, by, for, from, in, of, off, on, out, through, till, to, up, with).

  2. Double Preposition: দুটি Simple preposition যুক্ত হয়ে গঠিত হয়। (into, onto, within, without, upon).

  3. Compound Preposition: Noun/Adjective/Adverb এর পূর্বে Simple Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে গঠিত হয়। এখানে 'on' পরিবর্তিত হয়ে 'a' এবং 'by' পরিবর্তিত হয়ে 'be' হয়। (about, above, across, along, around, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond).

  4. Phrase Preposition: দুই বা ততোধিক word একত্রে একটি preposition এর কাজ করে। (in front of, in spite of, in order to, because of).

  5. Participle Preposition: Participle (verb+ing/ed) যখন preposition এর কাজ করে। (regarding, considering, concerning, owing, during, past).

  6. Disguised Preposition: যখন preposition সরাসরি ব্যবহৃত না হয়ে অন্য রূপে (যেমন a বা o) ব্যবহৃত হয়। (o'clock = of clock, a hunting = on hunting).
