IELTS Speaking Part-3 Activity near or on the sea

Why do so many people like going to places with water such as lakes, rivers, or the ocean?

There’s a certain allure to places with water that captivates many. Lakes, rivers, and oceans often offer a serene and rejuvenating environment, away from the relentless pace of city life. The lush greenery and tranquil surroundings provide a perfect escape for individuals seeking a break from their daily grind. Additionally, these water bodies serve as a playground for a variety of recreational activities. Whether it's taking a leisurely swim, basking in the sun, or simply enjoying the gentle lapping of waves, these activities enhance the appeal of such locales.

What kinds of leisure activities do people like to do in places such as on the ocean, at a beach, at a river, at a lake, etc.?

There’s a plethora of activities to indulge in at these scenic spots. On the ocean, people often enjoy sailing or snorkeling, immersing themselves in the vibrant marine life. At beaches, sunbathing, beach volleyball, and constructing elaborate sandcastles are popular pastimes. Lakes and rivers offer tranquil experiences like fishing, picnicking by the shore, or simply taking a peaceful rowboat ride. These activities not only provide enjoyment but also a sense of relaxation and connection with nature.

As a place to spend some leisure time, do you think the beach or the seaside is more suitable for children or for old people?

When it comes to beaches or seaside destinations, children tend to reap more benefits than the elderly. The young are full of energy and enthusiasm, thriving on activities like swimming, playing in the sand, or exploring tide pools. In contrast, older individuals might find such places less accommodating for their more sedentary lifestyles. They might prefer a quieter spot to relax, perhaps enjoying the view or engaging in less physically demanding activities like reading or knitting.

Do you think children and old people do the same types of things when they go to a beach?

There’s quite a stark contrast in the activities pursued by children and the elderly at the beach. Children are typically drawn to high-energy activities like surfing, playing beach games, or building sandcastles, immersing themselves fully in the fun. On the other hand, older adults often engage in more leisurely pursuits. They might bring along a good book, prepare snacks, or catch up with loved ones, valuing the beach as a serene backdrop rather than a site for physical exertion.
