IELTS Speaking Part-2 A place near water

Describe a place near water.

You should say:

  • where it is

  • how you get there

  • how often you do there

  • what you can do there

  • and explain why you like it.

One of my favorite places in Bangladesh is Cox's Bazar, a stunning coastal town located along the Bay of Bengal. Cox's Bazar is renowned for having the longest natural sea beach in the world. To reach there, one can take a domestic flight to Cox's Bazar Airport, followed by a short drive to the town. Alternatively, a scenic road trip from the capital city, Dhaka, takes about 10-12 hours, offering picturesque views of the countryside.

I try to visit Cox's Bazar at least once a year, usually during the winter months when the weather is mild and comfortable. The expansive sandy beach, stretching over 120 kilometers, is the main attraction. It's a place where locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy the gentle waves, take long walks along the shore, and experience the vibrant culture of the coastal community.

Cox's Bazar offers a range of activities for visitors. The beach is perfect for swimming, and there are water sports like jet skiing and parasailing for the more adventurous. In the town, you can explore local markets, taste delicious seafood, and visit landmarks like Himchari National Park for a dose of nature.

What captivates me about Cox's Bazar is the combination of natural beauty and cultural richness. The golden sandy beach, the rhythmic sound of the waves, and the warm hospitality of the locals create a unique atmosphere. It's a place where one can relax, appreciate the beauty of the Bay of Bengal, and immerse oneself in the vibrant traditions of coastal life.

In conclusion, Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh is a remarkable destination that seamlessly blends natural wonders with cultural experiences. The journey to this coastal town, the diversity of activities, and the welcoming environment make it a place that I eagerly anticipate visiting, providing a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration.

Model Answer:

Well, one of my favorite places near water is a serene lake called Willow Lake, nestled amidst the picturesque hills in my hometown. To get there, I usually drive for about 20 minutes through a winding road surrounded by lush greenery. The journey itself is quite refreshing, with the crisp air and scenic views acting as a prelude to the tranquility that awaits at the lake.

I make it a point to visit Willow Lake at least once a month, if not more. It serves as my personal retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether it's a quiet afternoon stroll along the lakeside path or a lazy picnic by the water, the lake offers a peaceful escape that helps me recharge.

There's a variety of activities one can indulge in at Willow Lake. Fishing is a popular pastime, and you often see locals trying their luck with their fishing rods. Personally, I enjoy renting a small rowboat and gently paddling around the lake. It's a simple yet therapeutic activity that allows me to connect with nature and soak in the beauty of my surroundings.

What makes Willow Lake special to me is not just the scenic beauty but the sense of calm it brings. The gentle rustle of leaves, the lapping of water against the shore, and the occasional chirping of birds create a soothing symphony that helps me unwind. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing me to appreciate the beauty of the moment and forget about the stresses of everyday life.

In conclusion, Willow Lake holds a special place in my heart as a peaceful haven near water. Its accessibility, the range of activities it offers, and the calming atmosphere make it a perfect escape for me. Whether I'm seeking solitude or a simple connection with nature, Willow Lake never fails to provide a serene refuge that I find immensely comforting and rejuvenating.
