 Human Ahmed was a teacher, author, playwright and filmmaker. He was born in Mohongonj, Netrokona, and Mymensingh on 13 November 1948. His Father Faizur Rahman Ahmed, a police officer, was killed by Pakistani military during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. He passed SSC examination from Bogura Zilla School in 1965 and stood second in the merit list in Rajshahi Education Board. He passed his HSC exam from Dhaka College in 1967. He took his Honors and Masters in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka with first class. He did his Ph.D. from North Dakota State University. He worked as a Professor of Chemistry in Dhaka University. ; Humayun Ahmed reached his peak of fame with the publication of his novel Nondito Noroke in 1972. He wrote over 200 fictions and non-fiction books all of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh. His first television drama was 'Prothom Prohor'. It was followed by many dramas and drama serials. He also directed many film based on his own stories. For his 2 outstanding achievements he was honored with many awards including Bangla Academy Award (1981) and Ekushey Padak (1994). He died in 19 July 2012 at Bellevue Hospital in New York. He was buried in Nuhash Palli.

হুমায়ূন আহমেদ ১৯৭২ সালে প্রকাশিত উপন্যাস "নন্দিত নরকে" এর মাধ্যমে ব্যাপক খ্যাতি অর্জন করেন। তিনি ২০০টিরও বেশি কথাসাহিত্য ও গবেষণাধর্মী বই লিখেছেন, যা সবই বাংলাদেশের বেস্টসেলার। তাঁর প্রথম টেলিভিশন নাটক ছিল "প্রথম প্রহর"। এরপর তিনি অনেক নাটক ও ধারাবাহিক নাটক নির্মাণ করেন। তিনি তাঁর নিজের গল্পের ওপর ভিত্তি করে বহু চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালনা করেছেন। তাঁর অসাধারণ অবদানের জন্য তাঁকে বাংলা একাডেমি পুরস্কার (১৯৮১) এবং একুশে পদক (১৯৯৪) সহ বহু পুরস্কারে ভূষিত করা হয়।

তিনি ১৯ জুলাই ২০১২ সালে নিউইয়র্কের বেলভিউ হাসপাতালে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। তাঁকে নুহাশ পল্লীতে সমাহিত করা হয়।
