Recently my father has presented me with a camera as he was very happy with the result of my Junior School Certificate exam. When I hold the camera, I feel so excited! I wish I could be an amateur photographer in future-not to take only personal photographs at different parties but to shoot our beautiful Bangladesh. The next six years, he spent at Horton in unprofessional study. In, 1638, he started his foreign tour. In 1642, he married Mary Powell, a young girl of seventeen. But his wife died in 1652 leaving him with three daughters. So, he married second time in, 1656, but two years after his second wife also died. Of all his works, "Paradise Lost" is said to be his greatest. He finished composing this great epic in 1663. But it was published four years later. By this time, he lost his eyesight. At the age of 66, he died on November 8, 1674.

Shyam loves games and sports very much because of his father. His father was a great athlete during his student life. His father always inspires and encourages him to play different sports and do physical exercises every day to stay healthy and strong. Because of this strong family support, Shyam has developed a deep fondness for outdoor games and physical activities.

(b) "Playing football is a passion for me!" Explain in 2/3 sentences.

This sentence means that Shyam loves playing football more than anything else. It is not just a simple hobby for him, but a very strong emotion and deep love from his heart. Football gives him the highest joy, excitement, and energy in his daily life.

(c) How does Shyam spend his tiffin period?

Shyam spends his tiffin period or break time at school very actively. Instead of sitting idle, he loves to play different kinds of exciting games with his school friends. The terrible, roaring noise of the cyclone signified extreme danger and upcoming disaster. It was a clear and fearful warning that a deadly, destructive storm was coming very fast to destroy the helpless villages and take many innocent human lives.

(c) Why do you think Rosamond wanted to buy all the things she saw?

Rosamond was a very young, innocent, and inexperienced little girl. When she looked at the bright shop windows in London, she was completely fascinated by their colorful outer beauty. Because she lacked practical knowledge, she foolishly wanted to buy everything that simply looked pretty.

(d) What lessons do you think Rosamond learned from her sufferings and disappointment? After suffering with a useless purple jar and torn shoes, Rosamond learned a very important and practical life lesson. She finally understood that things should not be judged only by their beautiful outer appearance, and that usefulness is much more important than just looking pretty.

(e) How was the relationship between Antonio and Bassanio?

Antonio and Bassanio shared an extremely pure, deep, and true friendship. Their relationship was completely selfless. Antonio loved his friend so much that he was ready to sacrifice his own life and give a pound of his flesh just to help Bassanio achieve his happiness.

(f) What do you know about three caskets?

The three caskets were designed by Portia's wise father to find a true and honest husband for her. One was made of shiny gold, the second of bright silver, and the third of dull lead. The person who chose the lead casket based on inner value won Portia's portrait and her hand in marriage.

(g) How did Mr. Mallard die, according to the rumour?

According to the sudden and tragic rumour that reached the newspaper office, Mr. Brently Mallard died in a terrible and deadly railroad accident. His name was clearly listed among the people who were killed in that train disaster.

(h) How did Portia save Antonio's life?

Portia disguised herself as a wise male lawyer in the court. When Shylock demanded his pound of flesh, she cleverly agreed but added a strict condition. She said Shylock must not shed a single drop of Antonio's blood while cutting the flesh. This brilliant and impossible condition completely defeated Shylock and saved Antonio.

Title: Practical Knowledge vs Bookish Knowledge

There was a poor boatman in a village. He was illiterate. He used to row his boat from morning till evening only to meet his both ends. He did not know how to read or write, but he knew everything about the river and how to row his boat safely in any weather. One bright morning, a very proud and highly educated scholar came to the riverbank. He hired the poor boatman's boat to cross the wide river.

As the boat moved slowly over the peaceful water, the proud scholar wanted to show off his great knowledge. He looked at the simple boatman and asked, "Hey boatman, have you ever read about the great history of the world?" The poor boatman replied sadly, "No, sir, I am a poor man. I have never gone to school." The scholar laughed loudly and said, "Then one-fourth of your life is completely wasted!"

After some time, the scholar asked again, "Do you know anything about science or astronomy?" The boatman sighed and said, "No, sir, I only know how to catch fish and row my boat." The scholar felt very proud and said, "You are so foolish! Half of your life is totally wasted because you do not know science!" The poor boatman felt very small and kept quiet.

Suddenly, the sky turned completely dark with heavy, black clouds. A terrible storm started, and wild winds began to blow. The calm river quickly turned violent with huge, dangerous waves. The small wooden boat began to toss up and down violently, and water started filling inside the boat. The scholar was shaking with terrible fear.

This time, the illiterate boatman looked at the frightened scholar and asked calmly, "Sir, do you know how to swim?" The scholar cried out in a shaking voice, "No, I only read books! I don't know how to swim at all! Please save me!" The boatman jumped into the wild river and said, "Then one hundred percent of your life is wasted now, sir! The boat is going to sink!" The scholar finally realized that practical knowledge to save one's life is far more important than just having proud bookish knowledge.

11. Suppose, you have a friend named Amid who is used to browsing Facebook. He is inattentive to his studies. As a result, he cuts a sorry figure in the exam. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend about the merits and demerits of Facebook.

Myself: Hello Amid! I heard about your exam results today. Why did you get such poor marks in the final exam? You used to be a very good student.

Amid: Hi my friend. Yes, I am feeling very sad and disappointed today. I could not prepare well for the exams because I wasted too much time browsing Facebook.

Myself: I have noticed that recently. Whenever I go online, I see you active on Facebook. Do you know that spending excessive time on social media is very harmful to your student life?

Amid: I know it now, but I just cannot control myself. Facebook is so addictive. However, you cannot deny that Facebook has some good merits too. We can connect with our old friends very easily.

Myself: I absolutely agree with you. Facebook has many wonderful merits. It helps us communicate with people all over the world instantly. We can share important educational information, get world news quickly, and even join helpful study groups.

Amid: Exactly! I also learn many new things from different informative pages and watch educational videos there.

Myself: That is true, but the demerits are also very dangerous, especially for young students like us. You are suffering from its worst demerit right now. It completely kills our valuable study time and ruins our concentration.

Amid: You are completely right. When I sit to study, my mind always thinks about checking new notifications and photos on Facebook.

Myself: This is the main problem! Also, looking at the bright mobile screen for hours causes serious damage to our eyesight and gives us terrible headaches. Many fake news and bad rumors also spread easily through Facebook, which creates problems in society.

Amid: I have realized my big mistake now. Because of Facebook, I did not sleep properly at night, and I got terrible marks in my exam. My parents are very angry with me.

Myself: Do not be hopeless, my friend. Facebook is just a technology. We should control the technology; the technology should not control us. You must use it only in your free time for a short period.
