The Result of Keeping Bad Company

There lived a poor farmer in a village. He had only a piece of land full of crops. A flock of cranes used to come and play in his field. At this the crops of the field were greatly damaged. The farmer got anxious. He noticed that the cranes didn't fly away even if they were driven away. They flew back again and did the same thing repeatedly.

He thought to teach a good lesson to the cranes. He also thought that without learning a good lesson they would not stop damaging his crops. Thinking so, the farmer put a net in his land and came back home. The next day he found all the cranes were caught in the net.

He also found that a pelican was also caught in the net. The pelican was very harmless. Addressing as brother he said to the farmer that he had gone into his land for the first time. He had come with the cranes only to visit the field. He had not done any harm to the crops. But the farmer was not kind to him and said, "You've been caught with those cranes who usually do harm to my crops. So, you'll have punishment for mixing with the bad companies." The farmer did not let the pelican fly away and killed it with the cranes.

However, there was also a pelican trapped in the net, which had never caused any harm to the crops. The pelican, seeing the farmer, addressed him kindly and explained that he had only visited the field for the first time, coming along with the cranes. He had not harmed any crops and asked the farmer to let him go.

The farmer, however, was not moved by the pelican's words. He said, "You were caught with the cranes who regularly damage my crops. Since you have mixed with bad company, you will face the same punishment." The farmer did not show mercy to the pelican and killed it along with the cranes.

Moral: Keeping bad company can lead to harmful consequences, even for those who are innocent. It is important to choose one's friends wisely, as associating with the wrong crowd can bring trouble.
