The Little Red Hen

The little red hen lived in a farmyard with her chickens. She had a desire of self-reliant. She had two neighbours - a goose and a duck. She would often visit them and talk to them of her plan. The goose and the duck seemed indifferent to her plan. However, one day she found a grain of wheat. She went to the duck and the goose and said, " Let us plant this wheat. If we become successful, it will be a great job. It will surely make us self-reliant. " The goose and the duck said, "Sorry, we are not interested. " The hen was a little hurt by their curt refusal. But she was determined not to let that opportunity pass away, which could well make her self-reliant. So, she decided to go on her own.

She planted the wheat. After a few days of taking good care of the wheat, it was ripe. It was as ready as to be taken to the mill. So, the hen went to her two friends and asked whether one of them was interested to take the ripe wheat to the mill.

"No!" was the impassive answer from both of the goose and the duck. But the hen was never to be drawn back and made it all the way to the mill on her own and brought the flour home. She then again went to her two lazy and withdrawn friends- the goose and the duck. She tried to discuss how to make some bread with the flour she had brought in. But neither of her friends showed any interest. The red hen went on discussing the matter though her two dear friends were barely listening to her. The red hen seemed to notice that but ignored their discouraging attitude. She finally asked, "which one of you want to make some bread with this flour? Believe me, it's gonna be fun!" But having some fun by making some bread with the lour was the last thing that the hen told the goose and the duck. But, they refused the hen's proposal. The hen was not hurt this time but smiled to herself thinking how silt' her two neighbours were. She didn't wait any longer but went straight to make bread from the flour. Soon enough she finished making her bread. She was delighted at her success and went on to ask her neighbours, "who will eat the bread?" "I will! I will," said the goose and the duck. But the red hen had some other plans. "Oh no! my friends" she said, "you don't have any right to eat the bread, because it was my hard work which made it possible!" She then called her baby chickens to eat the bread.

Allah Alone Can Help a Man

In the streets of Rome, there were two blind men who lived by begging. Every day, they sat on the road and asked for alms. One of them would call out, “Allah alone can help a man,” while the other would say, “The king alone can help a man.” When people gave them coins, the first blind man would say, “May Allah bless you,” and the second would say, “May the king be pleased with you.”

One day, the king passed by and overheard the two men. He was impressed by the second blind man who praised him. The king wanted to help him, so he returned to his palace and called one of his servants. He handed the servant a loaf of bread filled with gold coins and said, “Go down this road and find the blind man who is shouting, ‘The king alone can help a man.’ Give him this bread and tell him, ‘The king has sent this for you.’”
The servant set out to find the blind man. After walking for a while, he spotted the second blind man. He gave him the loaf of bread and said, “Here is a bread from the king. You may eat it.”

The second blind man felt the bread and thought it was too heavy and poorly baked. So, he decided to sell it to the first blind man. The first blind man, after buying the bread, cut it open and was surprised to find gold coins inside. “Oh Allah, how merciful You are!” he exclaimed in joy. He stopped begging from that day onwards.

As time passed, the king again walked down the same road and saw the second blind man still begging. The king wondered, “I sent him gold coins. Why is he still begging?” The king approached him and asked, “What did you do with the bread I sent you?”
The second blind man replied, “Your Majesty, I thought the bread was poorly baked, so I sold it to my fellow blind man.”

The king smiled and said, “From this, you must learn that Allah alone can help a man, not the king.”

Moral: True help comes from Allah alone, and relying on worldly sources without faith in divine assistance may lead to missed blessings.
