Questions and Answers

PART 1: Television Programmes

  1. Where do you usually watch TV programmes/shows? Why/Why not?

I usually watch TV shows at home on my couch. It’s comfortable, and I can control what I watch and when. I enjoy the convenience of streaming services, which allow me to watch my favourite shows whenever I want.

  2. What's your favourite TV programme/show? Why?

My favourite TV show is a crime thriller series. I love the suspense and clever plot twists that keep me guessing until the end. The characters are well-developed, and I enjoy watching how their stories unfold.

  3. Are there any programmes/shows you don't like watching? Why/Why not?

I don’t particularly enjoy reality TV shows. I find them often scripted and not very engaging. I prefer shows with strong storytelling and character development over unscripted drama.

  4. Do you think you will watch more TV or fewer TV programmes/shows in the future? Why/Why not?

I think I might watch fewer TV shows in the future. As life gets busier with work and other commitments, I find myself prioritizing other activities over watching TV.

PART II: Describe Someone You Know Who Has Started a Business

I want to talk about my uncle, who owns a small bakery in our neighborhood. He decided to start this business after realizing his passion for baking and wanting to share his delicious creations with the community.

He makes a variety of baked goods, including bread, cakes, and pastries. He often experiments with new recipes, which keeps his menu exciting.

My uncle started this business because he wanted to turn his hobby into a career and create a place where people could gather and enjoy fresh baked goods. I admire his dedication and creativity, and it’s inspiring to see how he has built a loyal customer base.

While I appreciate the idea of running a business, I think I would prefer a more structured work environment. However, I would love to learn more about baking from him.

PART III: Discussion Topics

Choosing Work

  1. What kinds of jobs do young people not want to do in your country?

Many young people in my country tend to avoid jobs that are physically demanding, like construction work or factory jobs. They often prefer careers that offer more creativity and opportunities for advancement.

  2. Who is best at advising young people about choosing a job: teachers or parents?

I think both teachers and parents play important roles in advising young people. Teachers can provide insights into career options and help students develop skills, while parents can offer guidance based on their own experiences.

  3. Is money always the most important thing when choosing a job?

Money is definitely a significant factor, but it’s not the only one. Many young people also consider job satisfaction, work-life balance, and opportunities for growth. They want to find a job that aligns with their values and interests, not just one that pays well.

Work-Life Balance

  1. Do you agree that many people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours and take less holiday?

Yes, I agree. With the rise of technology and remote work, many people find it challenging to disconnect from their jobs. This can lead to burnout and a lack of personal time.

  2. What is the impact on society of people having a poor work-life balance?

A poor work-life balance can lead to increased stress and health issues, which in turn affects productivity and overall quality of life. It can also strain relationships, as people may have less time to spend with family and friends.

  3. Could you recommend some effective strategies for governments and employers to ensure people have a good work-life balance?

I would recommend implementing flexible working hours and encouraging employees to take their holiday days. Providing mental health resources and promoting a culture that values work-life balance can also help. This way, employees feel supported and can maintain a healthier lifestyle.
