OUR COUNTRY
Bangladesh is our country. She came into existence on the 16th of December, 1971. The soil, the sky, the wind, in fact, everything of this country is very dear to me. Bangladesh is an over populated country. Abut 114 million people live in this country. The Muslims, the Hindus, the Buddhists and the Christians are notable among them. They live here in peace and amity. She is an agricultural country. Her soil is very fertile. Jute is the important cash-crop of Bangladesh. Wheat, rice, oil-seeds, tobacco etc are also produced here. Bangladesh is a land of rivers. She is rich in river wealth and raw materials. She exports fish to different countries and earns much foreign exchange. Dhaka, the most populated city in the country, is the capital of Bangladesh. Chittagong and Chalna are important sea-ports of this land. Bangladesh is a picturesque land. She has six seasons. Much of the beauty of the country is contributed by numerous trees of different sizes. Flowers are the special gift of nature in Bangladesh. They lend colour, smell beauty and charm to the land. Bangladesh though was once a country of plenty and affluence, has lost much of the wealth as time has passed on. However I love my country with all my heart.
OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY
Our school is blessed with a wonderful library. It has so many books that it seems impossible to count them. There are long lines of shelves and cupboards containing books on a variety of subjects. In the reading room, there are many long tables with chairs and a little placard with the word ‘SILENCE’ written on it, for a library is a place of peace and quiet. On a table there are magazines of all kinds, in English and Bengali. There are newspapers as well. When a student wants to borrow a book from the library, he chooses the book and takes it to the librarian. The librarian stamps it and notes the name of the child, the book and the date on which it is taken. The librarian is a trained and qualified person. He helps the children to select good books and keeps the library in perfect order. A place of peace and silence, the library is a storehouse of books written beautifully by well-known authors. It is well stocked with storybooks too. The true function of our school library is to make us aware of good and wholesome books that will widen our knowledge and help us grow up intellectually.
*OUR SCHOOL MAGAZINE
Every school publishes a magazine once a year. Similarly a school magazine is also published in our school every year. It is the mirror of a school that reflects the idea and progress of our school. It is the reflection of our latent talents. We, the students of our school publish the school magazine annually with the help of our teachers. There is a magazine committee. There are members both from the students and the teachers on the committee. The magazine is the outcome of the labour of all these members. It contains stories, poems, articles, jokes, short play etc both in Bengali and English. These are written by the students as well as the teachers. The expenditure of the magazine is provided mainly by the money that is collected from selling space in the magazine for advertisements. The school magazine increases our knowledge and sharpens our power of thinking and reasoning. It inspires us to express our potentialities and we work hand in hand. In a word, the school magazine is a training ground for us in case of co-operation and literary activities.
OUR School
A school is an institution for upbringing and guiding the younger generation. I’m a student of ‘Y’ school. It is idealized by all the necessary things of education. It was founded in 1899. It is located in the heart of the city. The school is not very far from my residence. It is a three storied building. There are thirty five rooms. Of them thirty spacious and airy rooms are used as classrooms. Morning shift and day shift divide the school times into two shifts. The school sits at 7:30 am and breaks up at 4:30 pm. There are about 2500 students and 55 teachers in our school. The Headmaster is a very learned person with M.A.M.Ed. He methodically administers the school with efficient teachers. Besides the class rooms, there are the Headmaster’s room, teacher’s room, the office room and the hall room. The library and the prayer room are situated in another building beside the main building. There is a very big ground where we play different games in the break. Our school is one of the leading ideal schools of the country. Many prominent men are trained here. I always take pride of being a student of such a renowned institution.
The Curse of Over-Population
Over-population is a great curse of a country. Too big population of a country in proportion to its assets and land area is-called population explosion (overpopulation). But population is one of the principal elements of a country. Productive and skilled population is a great asset and blessing of a nations. But illiterate, unproduc'Livo or unskilled population is a great curse and burden to a country. Any over-loaded motor vehicle gets an accident at any moment and an over-loaded boat or launch also sinks at any moment. Similarly, an over populated land is burdened with various alarming problems. It is obvious () that Bangladesh is an over-populated land in Asia having too big population. About 950 people live per square kilometre. It is illiteracy which is the root cause of this alarming problem. Social superstition is the another root cause of this severe problem in our country. Mass unawareness (Ttctwz"!) is also a major cause of it. Gender discrimination is another prime cause of population explosion. This alarming issue commits various sinful acts, crimes, offences and corruptions in the
society. It is also causes deforestation which brings about various
natural catastrophes and disasters ( ~ -,c4lf e fa-*) in our land. It is the root cause of our food problem, unemployment problem, transport problem, traffic jam, load-sheding etc. Over population can be overcome by controlling birth rate, removing illiteracy and social superstitions, by banning early marriage, by driving away gender discrimination and by creating mass awareness and more job facilities. If we fail to control this panic problem, our all development efforts (06t) and plans will be fruitless
